Creating graphic from photo..
mrs_merriman (26 points) | Tue, 2006-10-31 04:40I have a black and white photo (portrait), that I need to somehow create into a graphic, to be used on a black background. I was hoping to make a "Warhol" type image, but everything I try doesn't look white. I will be printed on a one colour press (black only). Any help!?

I dont know if I understood you well but perhaps you can use dutone Black/White and play around with the curve.
Good Luck!
What do you mean by "graphic"?
So its sounds like you want to take a full color photo and make it black and white? Can it be grayscale or does it have to be strictly solid black and solid white?
Yes, I have a full colour photo that I need to have just 100% K..
Just pull it up in Photoshop, convert it to grayscale, hooey with the curves (or levels) to your liking, then convert it to a bitmap (at a suitable resolution.
What you'll be left with is an image with no grays, just 100% black.
If you have some areas that would look better screened, you can choose to dither (randomized dots) or screen (linear dots) these areas when converting to a bitmap. Even though these dots are in fact a "screen," each dot will be 100% black and not a percentage of black.
Hope this makes sense.
If all above fails, just send it to me and I'll do it for you. :)

Thanks for the tips, Terry. I started with a greyscale image, did some playing around with the levels, converted to a bitmap (halftone screen) but it still doesn't seem to show 100%K when I sample the black.
It does make sense! I just can't seem to get this right! I am sure it would be super easy for you to do..

It's on its way..
Have you figured it out yet? Can you not delete the C, M, and Y channels? Or delete everything on those channels?
You could also pull it into illustrator CS2 and use the live trace tool.
You learn something new everyday.. I didn't know you could do live trace in Illustrator CS2. Thanks!! You guys are the best..
just to add to this once you convert to bitmap you can save as a .bmp file and import to illustrator, once there select the image and whataver colour you pick now will be applied to the black area of the image. ie: pick 100% black and then export the image out as a psd. ( or whataver ) now you'll find the image is 100% black or whichever colour you chose in illustrator.
