Creating Logo from Photo of a Sign
color (7 pencils) | Fri, 2007-10-12 23:39Hey Everyone,
First post here, great community. So, I'm designing a little site for a park that rents for weddings. They don't have a logo, but they do have a sign, which I have a photo of. I tried whatthefont.com to see if it was a downloadable font, but it wasn't recognized. What would be the best way to go about digitizing the logo? Unfortunately the image is not a good candidate for live tracing since its got shadows on it and whatnot. I've started laboriously tracing it in Photoshop, but I thought someone here might have a better idea that would be faster and perhaps more accurate. Here's an example of the park logo/font.
Thanks for any and all help and suggestions!

Trace it in Illustrator. Then you can resize the final version to any size you desire. That font looks familar, though, so keep searching.
www.fonts.com search function is good, as well as whatthefont.com which lets you upload a sample, and it scans it for the font possibilities.

Looks like Frankfurter to me. You might have to start there and bloat it yourself.
Or who did the sign? Maybe the client could contact them to obtain the info.

Edit: Haha. Note to self, learn to read the actual post...
Thanks for the suggestions. I think I realized that there really is no substitute for a little hard work. I ended up tracing it in Illustrator, and it ended up not being too labor intensive after all. Sometimes we (or maybe its just me) can spend more time searching for an "easy" way or a shortcut to accomplish something than it would have taken to simply sit down and crank it out the old-fashioned way. Lesson learned. Thanks for the help you guys :)
I agree with you on this, especially when it comes to making photoshop clipping paths. :) Most tools just don't come close to doing it yourself.
