Creativebits technical glitch

arvana's picture

I'd like to change my avatar picture, but when I try to upload the new one from my 'edit account' tab, I get an error:

  • File copy failed.
  • Failed to upload the picture image; the avatars directory doesn't exist.

Can anyone on here have a look and see what's causing this?

Thanks!
Arvana

Happened to me too.

You have to delete your current image before uploading the new one.

Correct. Delete and upload.

I don't know what is causing this to happen, seems like permissions, but they seem to be ok. Still working on it...

Ah! OK

Thanks. I was scared to delete the old one in case I couldn't get a new one. Update coming up!

I had this problem a month or two ago... Ivan had to fix it manually for me (thanks again, Ivan!) I think there might actually be an issue with Drupal, because I too have been getting these sorts of errors (either directory not found errors or directory not editable, etc.) on Drupal installs that I manage. Why the error would only show up *now* is beyond me, though.

Damn.

Sorry. That was my fear too. I bit the bullet and deleted/uploaded- it worked.
Try uploading an image with the EXACT same name and extension.

Thanks!

Hey, that worked, thanks -- I'm back!

So, to change your avatar:

  1. Give the new picture the exact same filename as your old avatar's
  2. Delete your old avatar
  3. Upload the new one with the same filename.

Hope that helps someone else who runs into this issue.
