Critique Please

Hi looking for some feedback on the attached logo. Its for a design studio thats going to have a sister company specialising in Guerrilla Marketing.
So Gorilla Communications will focus on conventional design solutions and Guerrilla Communications will focus on unconventional design...

It looks nice, if not a little clichéd. I like the bright in your face pink you chose.

it sure looks nice but will have reduction problems that will make it look like a star with a tie or like the end of a magic wand with the little star on the tip. and i am not sure about the pink, it is a nice color but i dont feel it is the right one for this stuff.

I think you'll lose the detail of the gorilla's face when it is reduced. Can you make that more pronounced? Possibly lose the tie?

Also, I'm really thinking the Gorilla/Guerilla double names will get really confusing. Maybe just stick with Guerilla Communications and have it all inclusive of all of the services you offer?

thanks for your comments, I'll do a little bit of work on the gorilla's face to make it clearer when its reduced.

Re the gorilla/guerrilla comment, taba you've hit the nail on the head by spelling it guerilla. Seems to be a fare bit of confusion about the correct spelling. This is why ill stick with gorilla. Besides the only place the public will come across Guerrilla Communications will be through a pitch or the gorilla website where ill promote unconventional side of things. I might be wrong but hopefully it shouldn't be to confusing.

PS I got my spelling of Guerrilla from Gavin Lucas book Guerrilla Advertising but when I asked friends 7 out of ten spelt it Guerilla..

Wow - I usually try to take care with my spelling! LOL

Glad my lack of spell check helped, though. : ) I still think Guerrilla (or Guerilla) looks more bad@ss, but I understand your decision. Although you might want to watch how you use it in pitches and website samples - you don't want your client to think that *you* are the one that made the typo. It has to be clear that it is for the "unconventional" side and not look random.

Like the direction, but agree it's a little cliched. The whole distressed thing is dated (or gone imo) and it makes it harder to reproduce too. Don't understand the star. But I see a happy accident waiting to happen with the tie - simplify the gorilla face and use the tie for the letter "i"... use it to "tie" the whole thing together.

Ouch!

Lose the stencil too. Too obvious - you can do better.

It's hard to make branding nowadays without any obvious association, that's why we need to add some refresshing element on type or naming.

yes I'm brazilian xD

The illustration of the gorilla is nice!
But it's an illustration.
You need to simplify it and make it look good even when the logo is small.
No details - strip it as much as you can.

I propose to leave only the eyes ( and the nose, eventually ) in the star.

The original font in the top picture could be simplified and modified.
I think it's the best from the proposals you've published here.

Have a great 2011! :)

PS: if gorilla communications is about guerilla marketing with small budgets - may be you'll like this site: http://desbar.com/

Not feeling the type. Especially the light one, way too "not gorilla".
