CS4 64bit 32bit difference?

What would be the difference if Adobe released a 64bit version of the Creative Suite for the Mac rather than sticking with 32bit as they are for CS4? Is it a speed boost or something more technical. I just want fast apps so I can get on with my work.

Can't see myself upgrading anyway, not at UK prices.

Per the article 64 bit CPUs have been around since the 60s, but it's only since the 90s that they've been affordable enough for the consumer market.

I'd imagine it's the software being written to take advantage of the 64bit processing power, and the Floating Point Unit processor capabilities that Photoshop is so fond of using.

You'll see an increase in speed with the new software, and yes, you're going to have to pay for that speed. Is it worth $1000 for this speed bump? Probably only for the advanced photoshop retoucher who needs as much speed as is humanly (computerly?!) possible.

It's like all of a sudden you being able to use twice as much of your brain that's already there than you used to. :)
