Cycling jersey design comps revisted
gnasm (242 pencils) | Tue, 2010-02-23 02:49This is the final selection of jersey design comps I did for a local women's cycling club.
You can find out more about them and the original brief here: http://www.creativebits.org/cycling_jersey_design_comps
After the first batch ("Big Bella" through "Skullgyle") the client asked for a little less emphasis on the "punkier" aspects of the group, i.e. the skull, and a little more on the girlier aspects. Her words: "cute with a bite." She also asked for more flowers and something with racing stripes.
So in the next two designs I tried to address her concerns, in one case very directly ("Racing Flowers") and in another a bit more subtly ("Wallpaper").
She "fell in LOVE with" and of course picked "Racing Flowers" so yay for client happiness! She liked the blue version, but wants something in a lighter blue. Now I just have to make a print-ready vector.
My questions for you fine folks out there:
1. What do y'all think of the body of work presented here as a whole? Keep in mind these are concept representations, so particulars like color are obviously subject to change.
2. I think "Racing Flowers" works, and the concept certainly fits the club, so I'm happy. BUT I'm not sure how to reconcile the three central flowers with the club logo. Any ideas?
3. Any other advice or critiques? I'm open to welcome any and all ideas.
As always, I appreciate everyone taking the time to look and offer advice. The feedback I get here has been more than a little helpful.

They're all a little cartoony for me, but the girl on the bike art kind of leads you in that direction. And none of them really jumped out at me as being "the one". If she likes the blue flowered idea, I'd try it with the yellow (or white) skull logo instead of the black - it will really pop (OH! did I just say "pop"?) off the shirt. Then I'd make the backside logos smaller and just line them up straight down the racing stripes. You could also shrink down that wallpaper pattern (about 40-50% size) and put it in the light blue areas on the front and back. Lastly - I would love to see the cartoon bike girl disappear altogether. I think it detracts from the design. But if she's required, make her smaller (65-75%) on one sleeve and put the skull logo on the opposite sleeve (again in yellow or white).
the 'racing flowers. should have skulls on the end of stamens,
living on dreams and custard creams.
"Stamens"? Oh hoi polloi - we have a botanist among us! :-)
I'm not satisfied with colour... it's so unhappy =/
yes I'm brazilian xD
