dance logo
aldo (121 pencils) | Fri, 2010-07-02 15:41had a little time to get cracking on this logo - i know it still needs a few modifications to the font (the line coming outta the e, the c & the tilt of the P need to be worked with) - just trying to get the idea going...
some thoughts please!
thx, angie

The word Precision is way too distracting in the top, the font is too bland in the bottom one. You're in the right direction, but need to find the balance between the two.

I see a little movement with the P and the dancer in the top one, but whatever you gain with that you lose with the rest of the hand written script. Nothing special about the bottom one - which looks like she's carrying a hula-hoop to me. The font also doesn't look very "precision" either - it looks stripped down and casual.
Not to be counterproductive, but may I suggest you look at your original logo again? While you do that, think in these terms... if this were an actual performance - what would the dancer look like? Forget the text aspect altogether for a moment and just picture that actual pose in the actual performance your head. You're sitting 30 rows up in the audience looking down on a wonderful modern dance performance and the star ballerina strikes that pose - you take a mental picture right at that moment. Look at the photo - what do you see? Now compare that to your original idea.
The idea is there - it's calling your name.
you're so right about the hula hoop -kinda reminds me of rhythmic gymnastics now that u mentioned it - who knows what i was thinking for that one :-)
i think i made a mistake by going thru some fonts with the client here - cuz no doubt she loved the top font choice, so ill go thru some more scripts and work it some more that direction... i tried calming it down by going ultra plain for Dance Company - guess it was an over kill! oh and the dancers pose is caught mid way thru "an attitude" - so, to a dancer, u can feel that motion - thats what i was told - fyi: i dont dance, lol...
i thought i heard someone calling my name...

the figure and the type are stepping all over each other in both.
the p and the dancer read like H or maybe F in the top
and +1 to the hula-hoop point in the bottom one
messed with the lettering some on this - getting any better? or ditch the font and look for another?
would flipping her like this help the h situation??
i feel like im back in college getting critiqued - ive missed that - this site is great!!
i get that the P and n are completing the As but i dont know that it adds value to the logo. and at first glance it just looks like a bunch of stuff overlapping. and i still see an H where the dancer and P are.

the dancer looks kinda odd, i would try a different angle of the same pose, it just looks like if something is coming out of her back, i know it is the other arm but looks weird, plus the leg is a littlebit short (again i know is the angle but it doesnt help.
Also, ditch the fonts, both are not helping. dance company is to angled, seems stiff and the script one looks cheap. Again is the "dance company" really necesary, i thought that taglines were not recomended for logos so i would go just with precision, jmho.
im starting to feel like that about the A's too - trying to make something outta nothing and its not necessary...
actually im not sure if i HAVE to use dance company (its the official name, but i dont know if its necessary - ill have to ask the owner)...
gonna have a few beers for the 4th - maybe that'll help!! have a happy and safe holiday!
