The idea is there - the execution needs a little help. The main problem is the type - you have a lower case d with a capital P (for one thing). The rest of the text is stretched when it doesn't need to be and the kerning leaves a lot to be desired - look at the "Pre', the "ion" and the "ny" especially. Tweak it to even it out overall.
But let's look at your alternate logo for a second - forget the rest of it. If I'm not mistaken - a relatively minor adjustment could possibly lead to pure genius.
I think the concept of "precision dance" could be communicated better, and you don't have to show the entire figure. Have you seen "Dancing with the Stars?" The judges are always critiquing minute changes in gesture or posture... try zooming in and playing with the expressive dance poses of the hands and feet.
As far as the type... ew. The font choice is uninspired, and the large open spaces of the "d" and "p" are doing a two-step on my eyes. I'm guessing you wanted a crisp typeface to communicate precision... this isn't it.
To echo the point Leaky made, does this say "dance" to you? Dance is about movement and timing and flow... despite the use of "precision" I would encourage you to keep your ideas loose; you can always sharpen them later.
i would sugest to change the human shape, try one of a jumping dancer or a spining dancer, to give the feel of moovement, get rid of the dp and just use the name Precision with dance company a little smaler because it will be obvious it will be dancing stuff
calm down peeps - i would never never never stretch a font - that IS the font (sansserif is the name) - i havent done anything with this logo yet - the dancer has to stay because the client wants that particular one and isnt budging...
so basically this is just the "idea" she sent me to work on... just wanted you guys to tear it apart before i got to working on it - lol and jeez yall tore it apart is right lol.. thanks for the help
nahh i love a critique, bad or good - but please tell me about this solution you speak of :-)
i have about another week before i have to get started on this one
I think it is quite good. I don't really like how the p and d form though.
Creativebits is a blog about creativity, design and Macs. We also have a critique section where you can post your work to get opinions and a forum to discuss any design related topics.

Sweet Jesus, reboot. Burn this. There is no idea, no concept here. This is terrible.
What comes to mind when you think "dance"? Is that shown in this logo?

This is the first thing I thought of, and I am so, so sorry:

On a serious note...

Dancing with the Stars? Oh no! You'll never live THAT down! :-)
you should not destroy the type... you kill them.
x-perience other angles for your P-d...
you don't need to put them and name together... the people are not stupid to ask "from where comes that P and that D ?"
yes I'm brazilian xD

my first question:
why did you horizontally stretch the type? the only thing that screams AMATURE louder than outer glows and metallic fills is assaulted type...
dance is all about passion, elegance, grace, attitude & flow. I see none here. Add movement and drama.
living on dreams and custard creams.

That's it - don't let these folks bully you, Angie. Feel free to take away their crayons if they step out of line again.
Surprised no one is seeing the solution I am. Seems pretty straight forward to me.
