Dante

I want to let you guys know that thanks to your generous donations and amazing response to the cb dreamhost promotion (45 members took advatage of it!) we managed to move to a dedicated server. Our own dreamy server was christened "Dante" and is now up and running! You should experience a dramatic decrease in response time when browsing creativebits. More speed improvements are coming to make cb even faster, but this one was the main and most important part of the project. Sorry for the ocassional downtimes and general slowness of the site for the last few weeks. Let me know if you experience any issues or problems.

dedicated server from?
that's great news! just wondering, is your new dedicated server with dreamhost as well?
speed up
Ivan,
It would be great to install some PHP accelerators on this new machine. I know E-accelerator, which I discussed a while ago here, is being released soon to support PHP 5.

Hate to tell you Ivan...
The problem wasn't with which server the site was housed on... it's with the hosting company. The site is still slow, though not as bad as it was earlier this week.
No kiddin
Big speed-up over here CG - not sure what you're experiencing. In fact the lag was a big factor in my interest in participation in the past. I think things will change for Ivan for the better - good move!
CG, Perhaps it's your ISP (wink)?
.......................................
A nut for a jar of tuna
I doubt it's my ISP
I have a pretty fast Cable connection at home, with most sites loading instantly. At the office I'm on a T-1 line and it still loads slower than virtually every site I visit.
I suspect that once the dust settles on the server move, it'll be much better. I guess the main issue I would have with Dreamhost is that in the few months CB has been on it, it has had more problems and run slower than my Web host has had in 3 years, and 5 years with my previous Web host.
I don't think it's your ISP either.
I've noticed several dreamhost(ed) sites to be running a little slow, but I bet more than anything that CB's speed is the result of neither your ISP or DreamHost.
Drupal is very server-intensive software that can put quite a load on a server's resources. Some hosting companies have removed Drupal from Fantastico to reduce the number of Drupal site's on their servers for this reason.
Drupal sites in general are pretty slow, and I think that is probably the main cause of it.

Hmmmm...
Well that would certainly make sense... Drupal's own site is horribly slow as well, as is every other drupal site I've seen.
As I heard Drupal is a bit slow
With the new version coming out soon Drupal 4.7 things improve however. The bigger the sites are the slower they get naturally as well.
I take credit for 1
I was only able to get one so far.....
awesome
that's great ivan. It seems pretty snappy tonight after some usual tendeny to lag a second. I was very close on that dreamhost promo. I ended up getting a dedicated too.... I am paying 85 servstra.com. Celery 2.4 80bg drive. its the cpanel license that kills me, but good software for accounts.
I think you should do an ipod shuffle give away for the best side use for a dedicated server.... you know creative ways you can use them for.
