I think you should lose the top one. I don't like the colour, and it doesn't remind me of smiles. If anything, it kind of reminds me of someone preparing to sit on something.
The bottom one is a little bit more interesting, but aqain it's not all that convincing. I see this little plane trailing off into the distance, and instead of it reading beyond smiles it now almost looks like beyond miles.
I would have thought that the message of 'beyond smiles' conjours up - to me anyhow, of people laughing and being pleased with themselves. Perhaps you could work that image into the background while still using the same colours.
Or, how about losing that airplane-like smile and slapping a lipstick laden kiss around, or through the beyond word?
I would try the top one on white instead of it being in a box. It looks to rigid and that contrasts with a curved, stylized smile. Rigid, in this case, in my mind, does not go well with dentist. I want something more friendly than that. I hate dentists.
Def second one. No blue box. Think about applying this logo from the size of a favicon (see creative bits' favicon in your browser? Small!) up to a billboard. If the logo works across all sizes then it's good, in my opinion.

Creativebits is a blog about creativity, design and Macs. We also have a critique section where you can post your work to get opinions and a forum to discuss any design related topics.

We Brits do things differently, but we still get shot at!

The blue box doesn't need to be part of a logo. If that was a business card or something, might look nice.
I like the top design a lot more but maybe you could make the curve look a tiiiiny bit more like a smile (but don't get too literal).
Also, it looks like "smiles" isn't quite centered (at least optically) below "beyond".
I'm the odd one out, it looks like.
I actually like the bottom one better-- hands down.
It's just all around a better composition. It also gets the point across but not too much. The "swoosh" thing is a bit overused these days though...
the second one looks like a smile... while the 1st does not.
