Design Competition?

Here's an idea:

What do you think about having an international design compitition. We decide on a nice theme to work with, set some boundries and then GO DESIGN.

Then someone would get the task of pikking the best designs and we would do something fun with them... post them on the web, make a book, engrave them into the moon... whatever we can think about.

Whadd'yall think?

I'm agree with you, only we need a theme to start to design... (?) <-- When this mark appear in my posts means that I'm no sure if my English is good and if all understand that I try to say. =)[/b]

Bahrain is on board :)

there was a cool project, where a guy took a picture of something with his polaroid and than placed the picture somewhere else and took a picture of that, than he took that image and put it somewhere else and so on... it was a series of polaroids, each encompassing the previous one.

we could do a project like that. take a picture of yourself with a photo of a forum member, than we will post that image and so on... larusson you could post a picture from your site of yourself and acm7110 could print it and take a picture of himself with the photo and post it, than i take over...

what do you think?

Canada is on board!

Ivan, have you seen that crazy wild girl riding the mechanical bull for the Hardee's ad? I know you like advertising stuff. This one is really borderline.

Middle bit of the US on board here. I like the polaroid idea. I seem to recall not too long ago someone doing that with cats.

maybe we can rather do a project which requires us to design stuff besides being an international effort.

how about creating a patchwork. i was thinking of a global messages made up of little pieces designed by each of us. like that poster larusson showed me the other day in the iChat room. what was the url again?

the message should be something grand and important that we all care about. any ideas?

here is the poster:

http://www.loremipsum.is/

each letter was assigned to a different designer, without any of them seeing the work of the others. they got info on what dimension to work in, and thats it (i believe).

What about an answer to this question:

"What would you do if you could do anything - and it was guaranteed not to fail?"

Strip fear away and see what we truly desire to achieve.

I like that. Ivan has an idea for a good place to start. Jim and I have been participants on a couple of mosaics together and it was so much fun. The only problem I can see with the letters is the international aspect of different alphabets. If someone can come up with something similar that will work for everyone I hope to join in. Any ideas?

i like futuras idea, it's very provocative. i was thinking about something much boring like saving the whales or ... but i don't see how these ideas becomes a community project. i mean how does the different artworks come together. help me guys!

i think we should work in English if language matters in the project, since that's the common lingual denominator in the forum.

i really liked the mosaic project, the only thing i missed that it didn't have a common thread, except that the edges of the tiles matched up. imo the problem with the mosiac rules was that inspite of the matching edges we didn't manage to create a single homogenous image. it still looks like a patchwork. i'd rather have the individual boxes meet at a sharp edge, like a real patchwork. i don't know... but, we had great fun that's for sure. especially poking the slow guys to hurry up and do their tiles.

i hope we can build on this and do better than that! :)

i wish we can have a project to see different opinions regarding the same subject. or something like that. i don't mind if we don't start right away, let's come up with a good idea with rules that guarantee a good result.

This might give you guys some ideas. It sure is original and unusual.

The website is badly designed and hard to navigate though.

I thought a picture scavenger hunt might be cool. Imagine a list with things like a bird, a tree, stuff like that. Then we'd see picture of like object/animals across the world.

Ivan's picture

i don't understand, but i got interested, can you explain differently please? :?

Billwhit's picture

It's just an idea I'm not sure exactly how it might work. Maybe some thing like three common objects: a shoe, a bird, and a door. Then we all take picture of those objects and compile them. I thought it might be cool to see photos of similar objects from all over the place.

Ivan's picture

that's cool. we need a template or something... :)

Hi Viridian! Sure you can play! Welcome to the forums.

We need a solid concept before we start though.

Is your location for real?

LOL! Well sort of. It's my nickname for Maine... Not that you could get me into a lobster boat-- I'm not that fond of the water. :)

What about a puzzle concept? Could we find some type of blank illustrator puzzle layout to use as a template and mark each piece with a number. Then everyone could download this template and claim a given puzzle piece on the forum. Then everyone would have to design something that constrains to the shape of the puzzle piece and limit it to a specific theme. That was the design would fit together physically, while creating an interesting mosaic.

Just tossing it out there.
