How to write, illustrate and design children's books.
It's really up to your imagination. Usually you have simple text and brightly colored pictures, also simply done. Check out some kid's books at your local library. Research is key for any design project, especially this one.

Take blues clues as your example. It was the most successful children program ever created.
Painfully slow and simple. Kids love it because it's on their level of comprehension.
Are you sure about that? I'd think Sesame street would be the top.
Regardless, using the blue's clues example, keep it simple, repeat the theme (Blue's Clues, the kids look for 3 clues to find an answer; Dora they go through 3 places and trouble shoot getting through the first 2 to get to the final one; make sure you are teaching something because after all, you are really selling yourself to the parents).
I'd like to do some children's books some day too. As a mother, I am not impressed with the selection that's out there. Good luck!
i'm going to follow your advices! :)
My daughter loves books from this author, Sandra Boynton.
