designing widgets

HELPPPP. I have to design my first widget...what (drawing/design program does anyone recommend)...can I do this in Fireworks or PS? thanks, rita please email me at ...

You can design the graphics in PS or Fireworks. But than you will need a programmer to make it work.

I beleive the programming is all javascript with some extra functions provided by Apple. So if you're a web designer, you should be able to make widgets as they are just html, css and javascript.

at the cost of looking extremely foolish, i still want to know - what is a widget?

here's a general definition:

widget = Window gadget. The basic building block for a graphical user interface. A widget is a window with a particular appearance and behavior.

but in our context the guys talk about:

"One commonly referred to type of widgets are the Dashboard widgets of Apple Macintosh computer users. Widgets, in this case, are downloadable interactive virtual tools that provide services such as showing the user the latest news, the current weather, a dictionary, a map program, sticky notes, or even a language translator, among other things."
