Digital pens and writing tablets
pixie (6 pencils) | Sat, 2008-01-05 15:52I am new to Illustrator and I wanted to know if it is best to buy a digital pen to use instead of a regular mouse. Can you recommend any products ?

I love my Wacom tablet. I didn't get the largest or fanciest, just the Intuos 2. It came with a wireless mouse -- you use it like a regular mouse, but the tablet is your mousepad -- and the pen. It's great to be able to switch from mouse to pen for all kinds of work, just to give my hand a change to prevent cramping. I much prefer the pen for most "tight" work. You can program it to do all kinds of handy things, including erasing. One of these days, I might program the whole tablet to do a lot more than I'm letting it do for me. It has so many features I've never really investigated.
Wait: are you saying there are digital pens you can use without a tablet?

I saw something called the IPEN that does not need a tablet to use
Very cool! I'll look for that. Not that I think I need it, but I love the idea.
