Digiterra 3D Logo
sergei.greyvenstein (86 pencils) | Mon, 2008-07-28 12:14Good Day
This logo was created for an IT Consulting & Architecture firm in South Africa.
The 3D Logo was inspired by the work of Zhukov Alexandr which I stumble upon at Deviant Art. The 3D Logo and this image were designed within Corel Draw 14.
Your comments and critique would be appreciated.

I posted it twice my apologies there is no real confirmation message though should have checked before i posted it agian.
SORRY!!!!!
Personally I find it reminds me of Microsoft (eek!!)...but for the original logo and what you turned it into, it looks pretty good :)
It could be a little cleaner, not sure what that pattern is on the edges, or maybe it's just weird lighting.
But overall, good job :)
I instantly thought of microsoft's logos
You have a good nugget here, covered up in issues. But maybe if you work them out you'll have a finished product. Here's my thoughts:
1. Do your logos in black and white. I harp on this, but it's true: Helps you get the shape of the icon down pat.
2. Why is the logo turned in the presentation and flat in the upper right? I much prefer the turned version. Of course you'll need to work with it when you convert it to black and white because you won't have the benefit of shading to make it work. But this is where your design talent comes in. :)
3. Put your newly designed icon to the left of the logotype, not the right. Right now it looks crammed and uncomfortable.
4. Remove the small, illegible text from under the logotype. Can't read it so why have it?
5. The gray paint splatters are cool, very cool, but don't really go with "Digiterra" unless it's software that simulates painting... :) Would make your presentation more consistent to show your logo "in the wild" in it's true environment, so to speak.
Hope those things help! Let's see this logo in b/w!

yeah, i was going to ask what the splatters were, too. they seem out of context. like they're only there to set the lower plane.
also agree that the small text under the company name is illegible. if it's an absolute must to put it there, you'll need to figure out how to make it legible at smaller sizes.
Hi
Thanks for all the feedback. Just to clear a couple of things the company logo is the one top right the 3D logo was designed to fit into a couple of illustration/processes the one you can view here
this is still work in progress and is suppose to illustrate the five business pillars that exists within the organisation.
The way I presented it here was maybe not the best way and the intro was crap, SORRY!!! The paint splatter i threw in to set the lower plane and was used in the interest of time and for the lack of anything better.
As far as the small text under the logo type don't even go there. I have been struggeling for the last month to get the client to drop it, but he insist he wants it there and in that space and I have had no luck to make it more legible any suggestions are welcome.

Please comments on the pictures on Flickr as well. Once again thanks for all the feedback

Excellent renderings. That being said, my initial gut reaction to your logo was Diarrhea and the spray beneath it...well, you get the picture. (Reiterating above comments though.)
"The paint splatter i threw in to set the lower plane and was used in the interest of time and for the lack of anything better." No. And no. If you don't have a feel for what should be placed where then leave blank. Afterthoughts look like what they are.
The D wordmark has been a little over-Photoshopped. I'd pull back on a couple of filters.
But I am liking the direction.

Hi
The diarrhoea part is funny it looks like it though just a quick question when you say it’s been over photo shopped do you mean the reflections and lighting? I just have to add that these graphics have been nowhere near Photoshop everything as you see it is in vector and in CDR format.
I respect your comment on the paint splatter and it’s true it was an afterthought and that is what it looks like.
Cheers
Sorry. Should have stated over-filterized rather than over-PS'd. I like the shape of the D and angle of, but not the gradients and overuse of lighting effects. They're fine for an illustration, but for a logo my preference runs more the gamut of solids and simplicity. Perhaps try using a more base rendition with the logo, and employing your illustrative techniques as you have done in the above posted samples. I think the stylization of the logo within these contexts work.
Again, great illustration work.

Hate the actual logo, but it sounds like you didn't even do that, which if is the case make that clear so people stop critiquing it! I love your 3d representation of it though and your presentational mockups. I don't think it looks "over filtered" at all, and actually think in the context works perfect just the way you have it. I think a flat boring 2d version would just look bad in the direction your diagrams are going.
Hi Guys
I did the logo as well so go ahead critiquing it. there has been a lot of comment on the lighting effects and glass like look so i decided to post the first rendering without any effect and you can clearly see the difference i struggled to show the shapes in the bottom left of the logo so i moved them slightly more apart and added the effects i feel it defines the shapes a bit better. But have a look at the first mock up of the 3d logo in relation to the other shapes in the diagrams.
Cheers
Okay, back up. What do you want here? A critique on the logo or your presentation of it? You're not going to get anything useful unless you focus your intent.
I'll say it again: You need to strip the logo down to black and white. I don't think it's going to work in its current state across all media.

I think there has been a bit of miss communiation here i would like to have critique on the logotype as well as the 3D rendering of the mark and the use of it in the diagrams
Here is the logo type in black.

Once again your guys feedback is brilliant, Thanks
