Dogbite (website)
Submitted by JR on Fri, 2005-11-18 10:23.
I am the co-director of an Australian Multimedia and Web Dev company called 'Dogbite Media'. We are three years old and progressing and growing at a nice pace. We've decided it's time for a new website - of which I have begun some preliminary designs.
Here is my first concept.
The site will be predominantly flash. There will be some subtle animations here and there but nothing too garish (nothing worse than tacky/bloated flash!)
Comment away guys...

text sizes
Hey JR,
Its looking good, only problem (could just be my eyes) I find your font difficult to read when its small.
It looks great for DOGBITE media / about us . Its just about legible for multimedia design development / creative / innovative. I'm having a problem reading the middle block of text though, same goes for the contact details at the bottom, although this could because of the aliasing there, very blurry.
lilly image works great, thats really nice and smooth - I look forward to the rest of the designs.

connotation
I like the calm look that comes with you design, but you should really think hard about using this type of flower so prominently in your design. In many countries it will have a somewhat depressing connotation since it is primarily used at funerals. I don't know whether this goes in Australia and whether your clients are strictly local or international.
Furthermore, maybe you could think of some creative way of using your company's name? I can't think of any connection between "dogbite" and flowers.
Nevertheless, a good start and I'm sure you will end up with a great result.
good point about the flower
It did slip my mind about the connection the Lily has with funerals. ... Its colors are nice and it looks slender and designer but, well spotted donhomie - Its things like that that can make or break something :)

I dunno
The asthetics are there but I don't see any concept. A pretty flower seems kind of odd for a company named 'Dogbite Media', I would try something a bit more raw. I agree on the type... way to small. Keep pushing it, I look forward to seeing a few more ideas.

That's pretty funny, coming
That's pretty funny, coming from someone with a picture of a dog for an avatar...;)
Agreed on the type- I think the lines around the text could be more pronounced as well.
As far as the images in concerned - I can live with it if I could be convinced of a connection between it and the concept of the company, but otherwise it's a tad confusing. The only thing I can come up with on Google is that lilies can be poisonous to dogs...;-)

Don't use eurostile.
It's a way to common font.
Being common has nothing to
Being common has nothing to do with choosing a typeface, for logo type or for any other application for that matter. Basically you're saying nobody should ever used Helvetica, Times, Arial, Garamond, Futura, etc. because they've been used before.

Yeah but Eurostile is ugly.
Yeah but Eurostile is ugly.
One question - why build it
One question - why build it in flash if, as you say, there will be some subtle animations here and there but nothing too garish?
I would suggest using DHTML/ CSS.
overall I like it... the
overall I like it... the only big thing I see is that some windoze users and people with poor screens might not see the words that are close to teh same color of the flower. Some more contrast would be good. Other then that I like it. Soft on the eyes. It's a callming design.
Anyway... maybe that's because I'm tired...
