drawing a vector image

Hi peeps

just wondering if anyone could help with a problem I have. I am trying to draw a circle with a hole in the centre in illustrator CS (kind of like a polo mint). I know this sounds really lame .... but I just can't figure out how to do it!! I need the centre to be empty.

I'd be really grateful if anyone could give me some advice

thanks

Kerrie

Draw two circles, one for the inside of the ring, one for the outside of the ring. Select them both. Go to Object > Compound Paths > Make. That should do it.

I like to draw a circle in Word, export that as a .bmp, open it in Photoshop, run some filters, live trace it in Illustrator, then place it in InDesign. Simple.

hahaha mbennett2 good one. then save it as jpg, bring it back into photoshop to delete the inner circle and save it as a .gif for transparency then print it out on a 8x11 sheet... but make sure it fills up the whole sheet.

Works for me. Then I can pdf it to my printer for review.

I like to first draw the two unjoined circles in Illustrator and then carefully hold my camera up to my monitor and snap a photo of the screen. I then take my film to Walgreen's, where I order an 8x10 enlargement. This takes 24 hours, so the project is on hold until the photo is available the next day (wish I didn't have to drive 30 miles to get to the nearest Walgreen's!) -- at which point I scan the print, and save the jpg -- which I then email to my designer buddy Stan, who actually knows how to use Illustrator, and I wait for him to email me back a perfectly drawn circle illustration. It may seem a little complicated, but it's actually just like the wise old adage says: Often the most uselessly-complex solutions are the best solutions.

Sometimes I just take a sharpie and draw a circle on the screen if I am in a hurry.

I just imagine drawing a donut and then assume everyone else can see what I see. :)

This thread proves there's more than one way to skin a cat, so to speak.

I always love how every artist has their own way of creating the same results.
