Drupal Question: user levels and email

I have a couple questions about drupal that I hope someone can answer (Ivan? :c) First of all, can I send emails to users through Drupal? Second can I have diffrent groups (levels?) of users? and lastly when someone signs up is there a way to assign them to on of those levels/groups based on information they enter during the sign up process? (ie "Are you: a. a man or b. a woman?" and then have them added to either the man group or woman group.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

You can send emails through Drupal. I didn't try it, but there is a module for that. Try massmailer.module and mail.module and see which has the functionality you are looking for.
You can create user roles. Go to administer/access control/roles and set up roles. By default you have admin, anonymous and registered user roles, but you can add more. And than you go to permissions and check what access you want to give to each role.
You can add fields to user profiles. Go to administer/settings/profiles/ and set up a new field and check it that it's shown on the registration process.
However user roles and user profiles are separate things. One can't control the other. You would have to do this setting manually or ask for a programmer to make a connection between the two.
Maybe there is a way to do it, because there usually is a workaround, but I can't think of it right now.
