Earmark
PrettySenshi (20 pencils) | Sun, 2009-08-23 17:21Another possible logo, done in black and white, color to be added later, getting feedback and opinions on it.
I am thinking about drawing an E, and having it come around and curve to the edge like the tip of it comes up to the mark part of it, and instead of it doing that, having it wrap to the edge to blend into the white.

It definitely looks nicer, but again, as with the other logos, I fail to see why it is called earmark and the reasoning behind your design solution. Please provide more information about the business itself, the service it provides, and who it seeks to target. Only then will you be able to have designers adequately critique your logo in the context of this important information.
I am starting a web design business, and it's called Earmark Web Design, the original thought behind the process was since I love cows, and they sometimes have the tags in their ears. I might however change the name, as I am not 100% sure about the name anymore without the tag. The site is going to provide services to local businesses looking to update their website or get one up and running.
I would suggest creating a name that reflects a sense of who you are or what you like IN RELATION to web design.
I like how you've experimented with a completely new design, but it's missing a concept. It's reminding me of the General Electric logo right now and just doesn't say web design. The logo should give people a sense of what the company does just by looking at it, so something that speaks about technology would be more appropriate in my opinion. People will be looking at your logo and judging your ability to design their websites, so it needs to be reflective of that type of work. This font just feels very traditional, when perhaps it would be better to go with something that looks cutting edge and technological.
I suspected the tag on your earlier logo had something to do with cattle (or, God forbid, toe-tags on corpses). I live in farm country and am surrounded by cattle with tagged ears. What on earth does that have to do with Web design? What does this new logo have to do with Web design? What is your rationale? What are y9ou trying to say to potential clients by naming your company after ear-tagged cattle? This makes no sense to me whatsoever.
ps: "Earmark" also means to specify something for a certain purpose, like earmarking funds iin an account for use only for computer purchases. Again, I don't see a connection to the service you plan to offer. Are you really sure you want to name your company this?

Well let me just say that I don't think its that important for the name of the company to say what the company does. There are an infinite number of examples to the contrary. I do agree it's probably easier to come up on a Google search but that's where the advantages stop IMO.
As for the design, the typography is quite beautiful. I love how it all fits together and the E frames the rest. I do agree it looks much more print than web, and that too print, quite a few years ago. : ) I'd say keep experimenting and go more web 2.0. You have obviously have talent so it shouldn't be a problem.
On a side note, the E is reminding me of an oversized ear! lol
You're totally off with this one. It looks like an old logo for a kitchen appliance company from the 60's. Why did you choose to go this way? Cause it's nice? Do you have *any* concepts?

I'm going to print it out and eat it.

I agree.
Start over! Sorry!
You're thinking too hard. You can't force good design - it comes naturally. If you're drawing a blank or trying to make connections that aren't there - it's not going to work. Walk away, come back later. Or don't. Just forget it and something will come to you while you're stealing cars in GTA or watching Megan Wants to Marry a Millionaire.
So far as the design, I can see flipping the E over and making it an ear. But (as others noted), you'd still have a name that has nothing to do with web design and a logo that was trite and totally inappropriate.
get rid of the circle, logo needs to stand strong on its own, change font, just keep that "E"
Good points made by kostah. I'd also thicken up the "E", turn it into an outline and go to town modifying it to make a unique mark.
