Eastern Lifestyle, Inc.

This is a logo for my company that I designed. I wanted to go for a logo with primarily Islamic roots and had western appeal. I think the logo looks pretty appealing, but I'm just one set of eyes. Specifically, please help me out with the font at the bottom.

Happy Critiquing and please supple some constructive criticism!

I forgot to mention that the logo spells out ELS and its achieved by using arabic letters that are a bit tweaked.

I think it is very hard to read ELS in English. I would say the majority of the people will miss it, but that's ok. A logo is a symbol. It is not meant to be read. For a western eye this logo is alien and will probably communicate that this something you don't understand therefore it's not for you. It doesn't have a western appeal yet. Btw, isn't Eastern usually refers to Far East rather than Middle East?

The E L & S seem like very separate elements, the logo lacks cohesiveness. (Just my western perspective)

As a logo first and foremost it doesn't stand out. (whether your appealing to a western or an eastern market). I can see what your trying to do and it is difficult to fuse the two styles/cultures.
The font looks familiar, but i dont think it looks appropriate. Try a combination of uppercase and lower case text.
Did you have alternatives to this logo idea? It would be interesting to see your other concepts too.
Injecting some colour into the logo would bring out the design a lot more.

Hope that helps.

Ivan: Yeah, I thought eastern was far east too? but I now have descriptions for 'eastern' areas as: eastern european, middle eastern and south east asian.

oh bugger.

At first glance, I thought the letters spelled out "EISI" or "EIS"... I didn't pick up the "L" until I read your follow-up post.

Personally I'd avoid straight lines and "stiff" letter-forms because they could imply rigidity and may be seen as modern or tech-y. However, I don't know anything about what your client wants or the concept you're going for. Is it a laid-back lifestyle, or something more exotic like Dubai lifestyle?

Islamic text is very curvy and fluid, which is an element you may want to revisit or consider as an alternative direction to explore.

Example:

I'd also research islamic text and letter-forms and see if you can figure out any double-meanings or symbolism that is appropriate for the concept.

Keep exploring!
