Creativity self assessment

Take this test to see where you can improve your creativity. It's a rather short test, so I can't imagine that it would be very precise. I generally have a bad preconception about such tests, but after completing it, I felt that the results were spot on.

In the chart the dotted line shows the average result and the solid line is my results, so I'm very pleased. My creativity index is 78.55. I hope this test is correct. :) As you can see my Persistence, Abstraction and Connection skills are the closest to the average, which is how I feel in reality.

I always have to make a conscious effort to go on and come up with an unrelated creative solution once I have a good one on paper. The Connection (The ability to make connection between things that initially don't have an apparent connection) is not that bad, but I would like to know if you have any suggestions as how to improve it.

Tell us your results and if the test did reflect how you feel!

Thanks for the link to cph127.

I scored 63.65 (with average at 61.41). I hope I'm more creative than average! I commented to the Creax site that it would be interesting to see how people universally recognised as being creative (Picasso, Lennon etc) would have scored in the test. I believe that determination to be creative counts for a lot.

You may be interested to read some of my thoughts on creativity at my blog. In particular I'm looking for feedback on my Peripheral Viewing technique I've developed (and used productively)

I scored a 74.09! :)
That makes me very happy. Friends always told me I was creative, and I know I am, but I never knew I was 13pts higher then average.

Then again who knows!? Maybe I am just really good at tests? Or. This test isn;t very accurate. It still managed to give me a little more confidence.

CosmicParoxysms's picture

I scored like 60.89.

I don't know how this test works. I thought I would be slightly more creative than the average (I don't know - half a standard deviation?)

Plus, I am a really outspoken and honest person. I was very surprised to see that my boldness level was equal to average.

CosmicParoxysms's picture

I redid the test - to see what sort of things it rewarded.
And it turns out that the more crazy your answers are(the more unorthodox and weird and obscure), the more rebel-like person you are, the more the test awards you, which I disagree with.

Wasn't Kant creative? Please... Pleas...

Nice random test, my friend sent me a link to your site about the test, and had to try it... hit an 82.80! but basically it sent me off into the paradox, boldness, curiosity categories...

i agree with the last guy, the more random you seem in the final fill in the blank questions must help... but the initial ones pose some interesting ways to look at your workspace and how you approach situations?... cool link none-the-less

Wow, I failed miserably. MISERABLY. I want to think it penalizes some qualities that a very shy person (me) might have, mistaking them for lack of initiative or imaginativeness, but maybe I'm just not a creative person and I'm doomed to be homeless.

This test can suck my ass. :D

John's Ideas and Creativity's picture

When a test asks me to rate a characteristic on a scale I usually reason that both extremes of the characteristic can be beneficial attitudes to maintain (particularly when trying to be productive creatively) and thus I go for the middle of the scale. I expect that using that approach is not conducive to high scores on the test.

I think it is a stupid test in a way it's build. It very much depends on how you go through it. For example, I never intend to choose the most right or the most left mark or even one next to them - just because I am not extreme. This would generate quite average results.

Ivan's picture

Дворник:

YES, if you're not extreme YOU ARE average.

the test may be stupid, but i see a flaw in your logic.

Anonymous's picture

I have two sides to me: one that operates in the narrower world of oganizations (which reward those with high project management skills) and my personal world which is more open and creative.

The results of my test depend on just "where" I see myself when I answer the questions.

Also, it was pretty clear which answers would yield a higher score. Not a great test then.

Дворник's picture

Ivan. I don't agree on what you say that one isaverage because one is not extreme.

Being not extreme doesn't have anything to do with the level of creativity. Also, I may not be extreme when giving myself marks, but I can be extreme at all other areas.

Ivan's picture

i see your point, but let me argue further just for the rhetorics.

the average doesn't necessarily mean that most people are like that. this is the average of their results. so for example if one says i like beer and another says i hate beer their average will be indifferent to beer. in fact neither of the two were indifferent about it. of course this is hypotetical because nobody hates beer. ;)

not that this has to do anything with the main point if this test is valid or not. in fact you're right, it's kinda weird that your own answers will come out like results. almost like: are you creative? answer: yes, very. test results: you are very creative.

on the other hand i don't want to bash this test too much because i realize that i don't understand the deeper levels of the way it's put together. maybe there is much more to it than it seems.

a friends sister is a psychologist and she tells interesting stories how these test are made. the first 10% of a longer 400 question test would weight for the 80% of the end result, because the later questions are just for confirmation because the test subject is tired anyway, so no need to really take those answers into account.

Just for the record; I did not choose any extreme selections doing the test, and scored 80.01

5stringdna's picture

I don't think this test is terribly accurate, and there is at least one person that hates beer ;). I Got an "average" score of 60.03, but my graph was lopsided. I think parts of it were accurate, but the areas of boldness, connection, and curiosity were far lower than I think they truly are.

Anonymous's picture

the application told me I was a creative idiot. Oh well.

Anonymous's picture

I was very conservative, but abstract. I didn't notice the score.

My point is, why is this connected to this website? It was fun, but how can such a meaningless, unthorough "IQ" test be helpful to designers? Everyday i look at this site i find it less and less productive and I am dissappointed in the chat room dialogue.

Ivan's picture

sorry to hear that. we're open for suggestions as how to improve the site. do you think we should stay more focused and stick to tips and tricks?

dios mio! assissinoze y cobardes! no hagaz eso! I scored 80.21. what does this mean? should I tell someone? freewheelin' frank, perhaps? I ill play it safe and tell my brother, broski, the best bro a bro could have. he doesn't give a shit though, as he knows who I really am. i do 2. I think it is all boosheet. i hate cats. separated by only measly consonant. that means somethong. if I soak a rat in gasoline and light him/her/it the city of ny gives me a quarter. if I do that 2 a cat, they arrest me. proof positivo: there is no justice, life is not fair, and rights are never given, they are seized. chance maximus/xxx "peace is war."

oh. ivan. focus on me with a 800.645 creativity quotient, I can whup up some crazy shit in no fargin' time at all.
chance/xxx/ e.g.:

Jerusalem (Reuters)--Christ held a predawn news conference today and announced that he had been wrong over the last 2000 years and that the form of religion he led was flawed. "As I now clearly see," He said, "My religion was bogus. I said that there were three Gods: Me, God, and whomever Mary or the Holy Spirit were. This triune of gods is polytheistic and, to my way of thinking, polytheistic. So I quit the religion. I started thinking and yesterday converted to Islam. I have taken the name Muslim name Daoud ibn Shabazz Jedidiah Yashica al Mansour. I urge my former followers to join me."

Vatican officials, irritated once again by Jesus "The Nazarene" Christ's statements, have denounced them and reminded over two billion Christians to heed Pope John Paul's reaction, "So what? There have been false prophets before Jesus, like Joseph Smith, Izzy Koplovitz, David Koresh, Jim Jones, and yet Christianity has survived."

Early reports are that "Jews for Jesus" has broken up into three groups: "Jews for Christians," "Jews for Jews," and "Jews for Muslims."

78.55 was the score given to me also (Typical 62.40). I'm anything but average. Weakest areas were perspective and curiosity. I'm curious as to why that is.

76.95. Fun test. Wow. My boldness line broke right through the edge of the graph. Hmmm..... Maybe that's why my ideas get pushed through.
