Only on servers...
As Ivan quoted, this only stops OSX from creating .DS_Store files on Windows-based servers, not the local volume and other Macs.

you'd still want them on your local volume
As they store info about window states. So unless you like changing the window state every time you make a new finder window.
Makes sense for servers. I hate opening the shared windows drive and some nut has set the view to list and drilled down 20 bazillion folders so it take 10 minutes to display it. grrrr
still alive and kicking ...
i dunno ... after all it did NOT work for me ... i'm still leaving those .DS_Store in every folder i visit on networked PCs ...
