Still struggling with a design. I thought about basing my design around some sort of theme but I don't want to "over design" it — it's meant to showcase my work so it should remain simple. But not so simple that it's boring and sterile, right? I'm pretty much just shooting in the dark here with a layout but I've been looking a LOT at other online portfolios and think I may have at least something worth showing.
Again, *VERY* rough, done in Illustrator, the final graphics would be done in Photoshop, and everything would have much more attention to detail. I threw some text and some colored boxes in just to give a general feel for the layout.

This is nicer, although as you said it is rough, i thought i'd let you know, I think the shadow under the header is too strong and Im not sure you really need it.. a single light grey line would do it enough for me :) - nice and simple and white space-esque
Nice work Apfhex, designing for yourself is definatly one of the hardest things to do, its doing my brain in lol

Works for me. I like the logo. I like the fact that you will have lot of writing next to the work thumb.
The drop shadow is much too strong. It over powers the navigation and the logo. If you're going to use drop shadows, imo, they should just be suggestions of a drop shadow, if you know what I mean. I could also see the navigation text being difficult to read but maybe it's because it's a screenshot. The logo is nice. Keep working at it.
