Like Leaky I do think it is a well executed logo. For my information though why is the square cut up like that; what does it signify?. Also, when shrinking it down, especially on white stationery, you're definitely going to lose the design and art studio, and it seems a little light for my eyes against the white background, although it may be different because you switched it to RGB for the screen.
Thaks guys, I'm glad you liked it, and agree with all observations, you're right hpercevault!
About the meaning of the square cut up, i guess i did mistranslate the studio's name.. "estilingue" means "slingshot", that thing some kids use to throw stones and break neighborhood's windows (very popular here in brazil, don't know about it in other countries).
lol ! You're damn right, Leaky! Fortunately it used to be more popular back in the days... these days kids just play their videogames quietly at home. lol
I like this, but "Design & Art Studio" is both much too small and redundant. Since when is design not art, and vice versa?
I believe the reflections are just for your online presentation to us, but if you're going to make those part of the logo, don't. The design needs to stand on its own.
Is the star/crack going to show up when the logo is reduced to business-card size? I suspect that might be a problem. You might want to enhance that element. And make sure it's vector. It seems to be a Photoshop brush, but it's hard to tell in an image that's been rasterized for display here.
Interesting concept. I like the typeface for Estalingue.
Hi Mara! Tks for your opinion and tips, it's been very useful!
Actually i did this piece for a full screen presentation, and posted it as soon as i first knew this site. So, all that render issues might be caused by this hurry of mine. It is vector and has all the application versions for a logo, like gray scale, one color, all that stuff.
About busines card, i'm about to finish its artwork, and will have a special shape, the cracked square will be actually the whole card.. its hard to explain, but it will get an intresting look, be glad to show you, if you want.
Anyway tks again, and by the way, saw your website, nice artworks goin' on there! Liked your syle!
Ah, I see. Your idea for the business card is intriguing. If it's possible to show it here, I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd love to see it.
Thanks for the compliments. Another CreativeBits member designed my Web site. The portfolio pieces are mine, of course, although I have to credit the same CB-er for a suggestion (from a critique session) on one of the pieces that transformed it from just okay to really good.
I thought when you throw a rock through a window, it leaves a cracked hole, not cracking the window apart. Anyhoo, that was my first thought, haha.
I really like this, but I wonder what it would look like it the square shape was left intact and there was a cracked hole through it instead. Good job!
Yes - I was thinking the same thing... do you even need the split? It's a good idea, except that windows are in frames - so they don't split apart like that. A loose piece would fall straight down.
I think it works like this, cause it's kind of in mid break...implying some sort of movement. But yeah, maybe make slightly smaller fragments, cause right now it does kind of look like a ceramic tile that was dropped...
People, it makes perfect sense, but we gotta remind that this square isnt a window, doesnt have any frames arround it, 'cos the window thing is just the closest exemple of the symbolism ive tried to reach. Besides, thats not a company specialized in breaking windows! LOL
aroberts and Art D, Rector, thanks for the tip, ive considered bringing the split closer, it worked way better (it was the initial project), even for the busines card's viability.
tks folks!
Creativebits is a blog about creativity, design and Macs. We also have a critique section where you can post your work to get opinions and a forum to discuss any design related topics.
I love it, love it love it. Good colour choice, great typography work, heck, if I didn't have a logo myself I'd probably ask you to design it for me.
I'm looking forward to seeing what the others have to say.

Yeah, I saw the slingshot/ broken window idea too. Thank god it isn't a popular activity here!

Like the idea of the entire card being the broken pane of glass. Have you looked at printing on a thick translucent plastic stock...?

Parabéns (congrats) ! The "hit" idea was well done. Could have reduction printing problems as hpercevault told but the logo is a winner because it's easy to remember since the first view.
yes I'm brazilian xD
Like it, but the split is a little too wide for me. Think you might regret that down the road. In general though - good idea, love the color.
