Fancy Pants Card/Tag

alissa's picture

I am creating tags and business cards for Fancy Pants—a company that sells upscale (and adorable) keychains, bags, and headbands. The "logo" and some of the graphics were created by another designer, and I'm supposed to make them work. All of my other attempts before this seemed generic, and I'm trying hard to come up with a new way to use the swirls. I started thinking about sewing, then my mind drifted to my collection of vintage buttons...
Anyways, the target market is ladies of all age—from teenagers to grandmothers.
Any and all criticism is appreciated!
Thanks,
Alissa

Make "fancy pants" a little

Make "fancy pants" a little bit bigger, and scale up the background image to show fewer, larger, buttons and you're there!

Love it.

I like this, and agree with

I like this, and agree with Nat. I'm distracted, though, by what appear to be flashbulb hot spots on the button photo. Try positioning the button (new photo session!) to coordinate better with the swirls.

Is this how your BC will look? Where does the name/contact info go? Will it be legible? How about making it a 2-sider or fold-over? You could save your client a little print money in either case by running t he job two (or more)-up, one for product info (for tags) and another for BC info, post cards, etc.

Would you do this as a Monotone on uncoated stock, or will it be $c on coated?

Fun!

Thanks!

I'm planning on making it a 2-sider and having the info on the back. For the tags, I'd like to make them half the size as the business card—long, not squarish—with the care info, etc on the back.
Other than that, I'm afraid I don't know. I'm still in school and have a lot more to learn about the practical printing side of design. My adviser gave me an online printer he uses a lot, http://www.citycolors.com/v2/index.php, so I figure I'll start there.
And great idea on the buttons! I'll try that when I get home.
Thanks again!

i've been doing this a long time and i still sometimes take that field trip. especially when a vendor gets a new toy. i'm going out next week to check out one of my preferred vendors' new indigo digital press.

which reminds me, i need to make some PDFs for him to print samples with.

It's pretty, but when I look

It's pretty, but when I look at it the first thing that enters my mind is a notions store, not an upscale bag and accessory business.

I'd also toy with knocking out their logo and branded swirls from a faux fur background such as leopard or zebra.

Also, FANCY PANTS isn't a logo that conveys what it is they actually do. You might also wish to try geometric solids hinting at the curved handle of a bag, the super close-up of chain and so on. Or introduce a subtle tagline on the front.

LOVING the colours on this though...nothing says fancy pants girl like pink!

I totally agree.

You are right about the logo, but I am not getting paid to redo it, so I'm going to save time and leave it alone. As far as it looking like a notions store, everything is handmade by the owner (my aunt), so it fit with her pretty well. Her products are expensive, but they're not Coach.
And I love the zebra idea. I will totally mess around with that...
Thanks!

the font is Ginebra bold. I

the font is Ginebra bold. I always thought that the curves on that font could use a lot of work. especially on the 'F', 'Y', and 'J'. I like where this is going but 'Fancy Pants' looks very flat and is sorta difficult to read. Nat has a good idea to make it bigger or you could put a drop shadow on it or something to increase the contrast. 3dogmama makes a good point too. The color is nice, i am curious how it will print.

wow—you know your type!

I agree with you—Ginebra bold is not my first choice, but it's not my logo design. The client already had it going into the project, so I'm attempting to make it work...
Good ideas, and thanks for your input!

Is this just a tag?

Is this just a tag?

What I'd like to see is maybe move the fancy pants logo up a bit and then machine sew a white thread all the way across the bottom (about 1/8th inch from bottom maybe). Let the loose thread just be loose, maybe tie off if you want. Or, maybe put a real button on the card for some dimension. Just an idea. :P
