Fat Cobra Records

Fat Cobra Records

Fat Cobra Records is a very small independent record company in Portland, OR, USA. The bands they represent tend to be in the genres of Indie and Garage Rock. "Fat Cobra" is actually slang for a big penis, so they wanted to slightly avoid this association. Also, they didn't want a snake to be overtly obvious. I chose for the logomark to be based upon the natural design that occurs on the back of a cobra's hood.

Out of the logo versions I am showing here, the top is likely the version that would actually show very small on a CD. The middle and bottom versions are just possible variations for different formats.

Possible color options will come later.

Let me know what you think, and as always, your comments are greatly appreciated!

Even though it's a show and tell logo, I like it.

The only concern the lines look like ovaries or a penis with testicles depending on your subconscious orientation. ;)

Could you possible design a triangle shapped logo or maybe square to get away from the round penis looking logo.

Maybe it is a reflection of my impurity (or immaturity!) but the first I saw was a penis too, even before reading the explanation of the name.
I think a slight alteration on the.. penis shaft.. could shift away from that idea.

Also, I think this is my first post here. Lovely site - hi everyone!

I am sorry but I have to agree with everyone else. I do think that it is the lead in that kind of set up the mindset of looking for the phalic symbol but it will happen everytime once someone caths on and starts to talk about it. Soon everyone will see it. Maybe not go for the back at all. I am thinking and no solid ideas yet but conctrateing on the mouth, eyes, or genral shape of the hood. I would try some stuff along these concepts. Just an idea to keep away from phalic symbols.

I thought you said you wanted the phallic meaning of the name to be avoided. From all of the above posts, I don't think it was, the line design does look like a penis. That said, I like the type and the look f the logo, it would work well for a rec company, minus the sexual subliminal message, lol.

there's a strong element of "penetration" in that logo. the submliminal sexual innuendo is very strong here.

I like the guitar pick shape in the logo, but agree with everyone else that the symbol inside is phallic, though I only saw it as a cobra marking (back of head) until reading everyone elses posts. :)

I'd put a better outline of a cobra's head inside the pick if i were you.

The font is strangely out of balance. Why is the T so long to the right? Why are the A's without their middle bars? Why slant the A in different directions when they should remain consistent for legibility? Just some thoughts.

I don't see any relation between the mark and the text. They're two different elements completely and don't really interact at all.

Thank you everyone for all the input. Definitely the first time I have ever had to put "penis" in a brand description.

Thanks for all your help!

Definitely looks like a big penis but overall i find it ok. I'm no expert when it comes to design but i do enjoy original ideas. Kind of reminds me of The Dodge sign hmm well the author might not had any penis conotations :P marirea penisului
