Files Missing From Maxtor 200GB Hard Drive - Help!
crc (5 pencils) | Thu, 2006-11-02 15:17I have a 200GB internal hard drive used for storage only. Had it for about 3-4 years now. Never had a problem with it at all. Have tons of photos on the drive. Worked from it Tue. night with no problem. Sat down to do some work Wed. night and only one folder appears on the drive. The drive still shows only 17GB of free space but the other files do not show up. Any suggestions on how to see/recover these other files?

Sounds like a directory issue with the drive. I'd start by running DiskWarrior to check and fix any of those issues. Nowing what it was able to fix would say alot about the state or your drive.
If you get the data back I personally wouldn't trust the drive and would replace it immediately with a Seagate.
I had a 200 BG Maxtor and it gave up the ghost, taking 40GB worth of stuff with it. I did get most of it back from a backup though.
Good luck.

Someone said to me once:
"Data does not exist unless it is stored in at least 2 places"
Backup is so incredibly crucial and everyone here should make sure that any vital data or creative work is backed up at all times..
It's happened to so many people that I know and I'm determined to never let it happen to me. I would suggest running internal backup but also looking into some off-site back up as well. There are a number of options out there on the web now, especially if your crucial info only runs in at 10 or 20 gb then you could always use this as an option for guaranteeing data security.
