Time to try Firefox

Safari is a great browser, but Firefox is even better. Both browsers give a better surfing experience than Internet Explorer, but Firefox is really pushing the limits. It supports all the standrads and it's fast. (BTW, if you can't see the png image on the right, you might be using IE).

To export your bookmarks from Safari to Firefox you need to download Safari Bookmark Extractor. This application will create a simple HTML file of your Safari bookmarks.

Now open Firefox, choose Bookmarks/Manage Bookmarks... and than File/Import... and select your html bookmark file. Once you've imported the bookmarks, you can drag and drop the bookmarks to organize them.

Happy surfing bro! Tell me if Firefox is better than Safari!

I've used Firefox for about 2 months now and I must say it is better on some sites that won't accept Safari (mostly because said site owner doesn't know how to standard code).

It's a nice back-up, but for some reason I keep coming back to Safari.

I left Safari months ago for Firefox. You can't beat the speed, especially on secure sites which usually choke Safari. Furthermore, the ability to customize your browser with themes, search engines, and extensions. It's fabulous. I only use Safari when I need to spoof IE to use a site (I enabled the debugging menu), or to check how my designs look when I am finished with them. I'm so happy I don't have to use Safari otherwise anymore.

Firefox is leaps ahead of Safari. Essentially because of all of the extensions that people are building. If you use multiple machines then I suggest using the the bookmark sharing extension. Another one that you should not be without is Adblock. This extension blocks anything on a web page. Frow your standard ads, to SWF ads that slide all around.

There's also the GoogleBar and Site Developer. Seriously, once you really use everything that Firefox can do it's hard to use anything else.

I always neglected Safari because I knew of Firefox's speed. But for the past three months I've neglected Firefox because I know of Camino's speed. (Cocoa + Mozilla) > (Unified UI + Mozilla) > (Cocoa + KHTML)

Thanks for your comments and links guys.

My favourite feature is the ability to block pop-ups selectively. I always enjoyed that feature in Safari, but for some sites I needed it and Firefox lets me add exceptions.

I like Firefox better than Safari but it handles Flash poorly most of the time - just freezes the window with the cursor spinning 'round and 'round. I have to force quit and relaunch to do anything. If they fixed the Flash plug-in, it'd be the best browser out there but for now, it's extremely annoying.

Disclaimer: Your milage may vary. I've been using FireFox and Camino (the cocoa based version of Mozilla) on a variety of Macs since they were released, and never noticed all that much of a speed increase (except over IE and Netscape). I still use them specifically for their security features and cookie management, something i find sorely lacking in Safari. The reason i still use Safari more then the Mozilla based browsers is twofold: adherence to the Mac User Interface and spellchecking in forms. None of the Mozilla based browsers support Command up arrow for page up or Command down arrow for page down, for instance.

The best way I've found to export Safari bookmarks is the excellent and freeware TinkerTool http://www.bresink.de/osx/TinkerTool.html. Among many other things, it enables Safari's debug menu, which has an export menu item. It also allows for reimporting Netscape/Mozilla or IE bookmarks, without duplication.

Lastly, I still use Opera. I just downloaded the latest version. Choice is good, and there are lots of choices available to us on OS X. This is one of the few areas where we surpass Wintel in choices!

Hi,
Great topic for me as I have been using both Safari and Firefox for awhile now..Dopey question alert- The one thing I wish I could do on Firefox is go back to pages I just surfed by pressing one button not two..Is that possible?

thanks- Bartman

I found this little free app, Safari Bookmark Exporter to be perfect for exporting Safari bookmarks to any Mac Browser.

This is the best way I have seen to take control of Safari's Bookmarks and export them to Firefox or other browsers:

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=161465

"First you must have the "Debug Menu" enabled for Safari. If you haven't already, here's how:

http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20030110063041629

There is an option on the "Debug Menu" to export Safari's bookmarks. They are exported as a "Netscape-type HTML Bookmark File". Save the file somewhere convenient.

Open Firefox. Now click through these options in Firefox:

Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks > File > Import

In the dialog box "Import Bookmarks From" check the radio button next to "From File". Now make the path to where you saved your Safari Bookmark File."

Firefox is a great browser, but Safari is even better.
Why ? The "Services"!!!!
No services in Firefox, for me, it's not a X application.

Take a web page, make a copy and paste it in textedit with Safari and Firefox and compare....

Happy surfing!

Safari is by far much better than Firefox.
I thing Firefox developers should apply their skills in Cocoa and C.
Is Faster safari,Firefox doesn't have our beloved Metal look, etcetera
