Firefox: What am I doing wrong?
Viridian (66 pencils) | Fri, 2004-11-12 14:34Oh, it has been a long week and I am having a "Duh" moment that just goes on and on...
Okay, I downloaded Firefox 1.0. The installer Icon appeared. I click on it and a new Finder window appears with the Firefox icon there. I click on it, thinking that it will launch an installer, but it just opens up a new Firefox browser window. Well okay, I move the old Firefox app icon out of my Applications folder into the Trash ( I haven't emptied the Trash yet) and move the new icon into Applications. Well that doesn't work; everytime I click on it, the installer icon shows up on my desktop.
Does this make any sense? Did I get enough sleep last night? (the answer to that is a resounding NO!) If anyone has a clue for this clueless one, I would appreciate it!

Throw away all copies of Firefox you have. Re-download the .dmg file from www.getfirefox.com.
Once downloaded, double click the .dmg file on your desktop. A disk image icon will appear on your desktop and a window will open with the Firefox app icon.
Drag the icon in the window (of the little fox around the globe) to your applications folder.
Now drag the disk image icon on the desktop to the trash (which will eject the virtual disk). Now either delete the .dmg file or put it on a backup drive (you don't need it anymore).
Launch Firefox by double clicking the Firefox icon in your applications folder.
There is NO INSTALLER for Firefox. When the disk image mounts, the app installs by you copying it to your apps folder.
