First attempt | WebDesign/Development
Macinme (8 pencils) | Wed, 2005-11-09 13:22Hi guys,
This is my first thread to CreativeBits. My name is Noushad, working as a Graphic Designer (Print Media) in Dubai. Here is my first web design (a freelance project). I would like to know your comments on that. I did the development part too with my beginner level CSS and HTML skills. I was trying to get a structure of the site with dummy text and images. It's not a 100% CSS site. I used tables for the layout, formated the "body content with CSS". Now the challenge is to convert the entire site to CSS (without tables).
Thanks, Noushad

The layout it good, but don't forget to title your webpages. Its the always the first thing I do whenever I start a page. I was taught there is no bigger faux paux than having a great site that is "untitled" at the top. Keep up the good work though!
You gotta title your pages, it also helps googlebot discover that you have different pages.
Also, theres a small problem with your footer on the Partners page... it shifting to the right.
Not a bad site overall, keep up the good work !

Thanks for the feedback. I will take care of the title part.
Now, i got this problem. I got a macmini at home. When i took my all html files to office (PC) to upload it, i noticed that i have these new files starting with "._"
eg. "._partner.html" for each file. But the file size is 1k. How did this happen. I am very new to Mac Platform.
Regards, Noushad.

I cant remember the reason why those files were created, I think its something to do with filename or thumb preview or something....
it used to happen to me, I used to copy stuff to Zip disks and i had those duplicate weird files.
You should find if you delete those _. files, everything should be fine.
Also, try zipping your documents before transferring them, I think that used to get around the problem too.

You can/should delete all those "._" files. I think Jammo's right- those files are invisible on the mac platform, but in the jump to pc, they become visible. Essentially, you should delete them so as not to get confused- though really, you can't do anything with them anyway.
Simple, clean, good use of complimentary colors. I do think choosing a darker grey would help provide some contrast between the colors though, the values seem quite close now. It is good to hear new developers are turning to CSS layout to start with. It took me forever to unlearn the bad habits I was taught when I started designing for the web.
