pompo (998 points) | Sat, 2004-08-14 15:26Does anybody know
a website with pantone color references for flags?
I have to do a logo with the italian flag colors
and I need to have the exact matches for the green
and red in it.
Thanks
(I know I should go buy me a flag and match :)

I cant find the colors in my Pantones
spot or process swatches in Indesign.
Maybe because they are European swatches?

Pantone is releasing new colors every year. Maybe you have an old list? I couldn't find the colors in PS either. :(
New to the graphics world can someone give a nice summary of pantone for muah... I am very sure I need to know it.
got code?
In a nutshell:
You have several color systems, RGB for monitors, CMYK for four color process printing. However there are occasions when you want to specify a direct color for printing. For example most logos are made up of couple of direct colors.
So, Pantone created a list of colors and named them. So each color has a number and depending on the type of printing it has a letter behind the number. For example 200C. C=coated paper printing.
This is very useful for graphic designers and printers, because they can just tell each other, print that logo in that Pantone and everybody around the world will know exactly what they are talking about. Otherwise it would be difficult to make sure a certain brand looks the same all over the world.

The "TC" at the end of the colors stands for Textile Cotton. These are not traditional printing Pantone colors. These are meant for fabrics. I don't have Illustrator CS or InDesign CS on my computer at home. I'll check at work in the morning to see if these swatches are included with the software. Or you can purchase a guide on the Pantone Website: http://www.pantone.com/products/products.asp?idSubArea=0&idArea=4&idProduct=290&idArticleType_Products=0
but the price is pretty steep. Know any interior or fabric designers? They might be of help in loaning you a book.
