Well it's not elegant! This logo need lots of work, no reason to be nice for the sake of being nice. A honest critique is the way people learn.

This logo is not working. Think about what 'flooring' is to the buyer, not what 'flooring' looks like. This kind of thought makes the designer come up with a generic idea.

I'd say the name also fails from the buyers perspective. It's as if the owners are trying to make a statement rather than create an identity. I don't know too many people that buy flooring for someone else. Isn't it obvious the flooring is for me?

And I have to ask... "What is the fascination with the number 4"?

A designer needs to train his or her eyes to see things clearly. Along that line of thought, I feel the need to mention that my name is Mara, not maro. Julio's screen name is not "people who" but "pepelewho."

Bye now.

At first glance the G looked like a toilet paper roll to me.

"A designer needs to train his or her eyes to see things clearly."

Four different threads on this Flooring4U logo and the "concept" and design hasn't moved a nanometer? Really, a scrolling "oo" is the only solution? This is not a design critique ... it's begging for you guys to stop.

BA in Graphic Design. It boggles the mind.

So you're honestly telling her that when she gets a project she cant figure out a solution to, she should just give up. It was not meant as the only solution but hopefully a start. She obviously needed a push in the general direction.

I think everyone is getting sick of my flooring 4 u. And yes MARA I do have my BA in graphic design. Maybe i am a clueless designer. so putting my thoughts on this forum, you are going to judge me? Im more of a visual person and if you need to know i was also a str8 A student. The problem I have is Add. my mind keeps thinking about one thing or another. I cant pay attention for a very long time. So i will get one idea in my head and i just forget and move on to something else. i can not focus. I also have my beauty degree and that is how im getting by if that was also on your mind. I need quidance. I always had this problem but when i was a kid people were more patient with me. The more i get older, i guess that changes. And yes that logo was elegant. Julio took time away from what he was doing to show me what his thoughts were about the logo. Very nice of him. ANd there is four threads of this, well with this forum how can you reply and update your logo. You cant attach anything so I had to open up a new thread. Im not gonna give up and if you are impatient with me then please dont reply to my threads. thank you

I admire your courage for taking the creative criticism ( and just plain criticism) from the people here. The real world IS tough, better to hear it from us ( where it can't hinder your reputation as a designer) than out there, where it can. Keep at it, absorb the feedback you're getting here, and in other posts.

You're right to be defensive, a lot of comments made about your work are just outright useless, since Nanda isn't around people need some kind of outlet. Don't give up. And you certainly don't need to explain yourself to people.

That being said, your design needs some thinking outside the box. Did you follow some of the great advice from the last post? When I was in school, and had to do a logo, we had to pull out 50 - 60 concept thumbnails, about 4 by 4 inches. Stick to your pencils for now, keep at it. Put ANYTHING down, maybe thumbnail #41 and thumbnail #60 combined could be a new #61. Just keep sketching, keep at it!

A visual person with many ideas in their head, as well as four years of graphic design at the college level, should be able to accomplish several tasks: (1) conceptualize several creative solutions for the design job, (2) present those ideas in a competent presentation, (3) use a critique of that presentation to refine the concept and graphic elements that visualize the concept.

When pepelewho starts a new thread offering solutions that are still stuck in the same place you became stuck in the first thread ... well, get unstuck. Use all that good stuff you learned in college and make your husband proud.

:)

Also, look at the bottom of the thread there is a link for BBCode tags that instruct you on how the post a new image within the thread.

Speaking from ADD experience, the best way to combat it is to give it one task that feels like many tasks.

First, research the company and how it relates to its market. Is it a small store and local? Large and regional? Franchises? What sort of customer goes there, higher end, middle of the road or people on a tight budget?

After you answer these things you can start narrowing down a style for your logo/s and you can start work.

So, first, do your homework/research.

Second, sit down with pencil and paper and sketch 3 ideas. Just sketch, without judgement and without color, just black and white.

Third, digitize your work (scan your drawings and trace them in illustrator is just one way to go) and clean up the lines so the logo looks crisp.

In my mind a logo is not the text and icon combined; the two must be separate. Look at Nike, Toyota, CreativeBits...all the great brands have an icon and a logotype, used for different applications.

Try those things and then post a url to your next attempt on photobucket.com or whatever free image hosting site you are a member of rather than starting a new post.

wow...this turned into a therapy session about mental disorders. Who knew?
But yes, take all the positive and negative criticism and run with it.
The logo does not work and we all know this. Do not use Microsoft Word to design anything. Just kidding.

Since my own ADD diagnosis, I've started on a medication (Strattera) that prevents my brain from flying off in so many directions at once that nothing gets accomplished, but without interfering with my creativity. I've done the therapy thing, read all the books -- even reviewed an especially good one on Amazon.com -- and found practical ways to cope with the condition (which is NOT a "mental disorder," by the way, but entirely in the physiology of the brain, with social ramifications that may mimic some borderline personality disorders). Through all this, I've also found ways to preserve the very GOOD things about ADD: the ability to multitask almost effortlessly (it comes naturally to ADDers), to smash it all together on deadline ("FOCUS!"), to view a problem from many different perspectives seemingly all at once, and so on.

The real world doesn't accept ADD as a defense for sub-par work. To the extent that this online community represents a microcosm of the real world, it shouldn't be surprising that most of the comments in these related threads have become increasingly unsupportive.
