Font Number in Adobe Software
el_reverend (134 pencils) | Mon, 2007-04-16 20:36Hi all,
I have a bit of a problem or maybe it's more of a disturbance. In my text dialog boxes in Illustrator and InDesign it shows a font with a number in front of the name. When I installed the font I seem to remember that it did not do that (I wouldn't bet on that though). All other applications (system OSX) display the font name correctly. That bothers me a little because I tend to type the name of the font into the box rather than scrolling to find it. And it doesn't find it without the #. And of course I don't remember the #. Does anyone know why this happens? I use Linotype Font Explorer to manage my font and have done all sort of cache resets and system cleaning to no avail.
If you guys have any idea I'd appreciate it. Thanx.

No Ideas anyone?
Still nothing? Nobody knows what those numbers mean or where they come from (not in the font name) or how the hell I can get rid of them?
Helvetica Neue and some other fonts (Univers for example) use a numbering system for the different weights. They don't show up in the font files in the Finder, but they do in FontExplorer, InDesign and Illustrator. They are also shown with the numbers here;

It is nothing to worry about, just try and get used to it.
Thanks a lot, that clears it up. Irks me, but what is one to do.
you could open the fonts in a font editor
and re-export them without the number in front of their weight.
still, i dont recommend that.
