FREELANCE GIGS? WHERE?
TheCount (48 points) | Mon, 2007-11-12 21:29I have been looking for a place online to pick-up some freelance work to supplement my income as a designer. I have tried Craigslist without success. I have looked into Guru and iFreelance. Any recommendations?
Thanks so much!
I thought www.elance.com looked interesting, not sure how it is though.
I've never really used online services to get freelance gigs, so sorry I'm not much help there. :(

truly enjoyed your site/work. very clean.
i tried elance, mind you i know it's grown since, but it still didn't do me much good. I also tried two other sites that have since gone under. To be honest, I used to get FAR more from cold calling and knocking on doors. it's sometimes painful, sometimes tediously LONG, but i find it gets the best clients cause you select who you want to call.
If you do use some of these services, let us know how they work out for you.
Best of luck...

where you from?
Craigslist has been very fruitful for myself, as well as a few other people i know on here. I'm surprised you haven't landed much on there. Maybe you are in a dull market, which will hurt, but it's not impossible to generate the work none the less.
Though it may sound tacky, it works: get a large advertising magnet made and put it on your car. If you need to go some place that you don't want the advertising (say a wedding, funeral, a mack-daddy date with your new woman, or your old woman too!) then just remove it, that's the beauty of the magnet vs getting the car wrapped like some people do these days.
Maybe even a bumper sticker. I've done it, it's generate some work for me, not my favorite solution, but it works to some extent.
like Natobasso said, go shake hands. Wait, i said that before too, knock on doors.
again, best of luck. and like i asked, i'm curious where you're from in this case.

Live in a city where a large art school resides. I have hit CraigsList within nearby states but not much luck. Ill keep trying though. Thnaks.
Probably lots of competition, but if you have more experience you can use that to your advantage.
Most people I know who go freelance get there by nabbing their first paying client. It's by doing the work that you get more work, if that makes sense.
Get out there and market yourself and word will spread. Find clients you WANT to work for. They will feel your energy and passion.

Nothing beats networking in this arena, I'm afraid. Get out there and press the flesh! (shake hands)
