Freeware Mac OS X Icon Manager
Brad (22 points) | Fri, 2005-08-05 20:12I'd like to change some of the icons in my dock and I have no clue how to do so (Finder and Trash namely). Also, how would I go about making it so all new folders are with a certain icon, not the default. I know about doing it one by one and copying and pasting the icon into the view info screen, but there's got to be an easier way, right? Are there any free programs that any of you know about that would allow me to do any of this?
Also, a program like NetNewsWire, I change it's Icon, but since it needs to display the number of unread items it automatically changes back to its default icon after every launch. Any help there?
Thanks,
Brad

On program like NetNewsWire the actual Icon file is inside the program in a format called ICNS.It is this file you need to replace if you want the icon to stay as the modified version. The unread count will hover above the icon, regardless of what the icon is.
As for freeware icon managers, I not sure if what you want can be done without the likes of IconBox and Candybar. If you want to change it just once then perhaps the trial version might allow you to do this . I'm not 100% sure.
To change the Finder and Trash icons follow the directions in this tutorial
