Full Circle Identity

My brother is starting a small engineering and survey company and asked me for some help in developing an identity. His idea for the name "FULL CIRCLE" is that he does every aspect of civil engineering, not just one. In the small town where he lives this is rare and thus becomes a competitive advantage. The colors 'Orange' and 'Red' are used to flag important points in surveying. The arrow logo will also be used as a custom 'North Arrow' which is placed on all surveying plans. [It indicates north on the plan and I thought it would be a nice way to tie his work to his identity] I also plan on suggesting that he get the logo printed on his survey flags and ribbon so people associate the markings as his work. Sidenote: orange and black are also the local high school colors]

These are some of my initial ideas and I'd like a clear perspective on whether I'm heading in the right direction. [No pun intended] Your honesty and expertise are always appreciated.

I like the second one better.

Also, I know why you flipped the second "c" in circle, but now it reads as an "o" (i.e. Full Cirole).

hey, i like the direction...i dont care for the type but that is your brothers preference, for I dont think it will affect the targeted audience. Instead of paper i see these on magnets for some reason.....best of luck!

I like the logo hidden behind in the first one, but i hate how the "surveying" goes off into it's own. maybe make it black also and have it overlap the logo.

However, i much prefer the orange in the second one.

Just some fine tuning and you'll have it. As for the font comment, i tend to agree, but sometimes it's not about the critique people but the client, in this case your brother.. nice work!

I rather the second one for some reason, it makes more sense to me, remembber orange is a dianmic color, and is more asociated with this line of work, engineers use this color all of the time, like the cones and other things. My sugestion is to put the C in a position that will be more readable, because if you are not graphic oriented this will be a lot of confusement, so go on being creative with the C but put the open side towards people could read it but can be still creative, till it up or down, work on it, and the gray underline its not communicating, try it black, later on I got to understand that too many colors in a logo makes a salad out of it, gray is not a good color for this, you want to communicate dinamism and effectiveness in this logo, and psycollogy says that gray is dirty and sadness so I would think about.....

lovin' the second logo. flip the second C back around and call it a done deal.
it's crisp, clean and georgous. (what is the font you used for the grey type?)

i also think the grey type is sexy...don't change it. the average person doesn't look that deep into colours so i doubt they will find it sad. the orange is punchie enough! however don't get me wrong colour does say a lot and i do sometimes look at the emotions that colours can connote...but i think your ok here. personally i think grey is under rated—love it!

the top logo i can barely read.

would love to see more of your work.

Welcome to Creative Bits Jay. I really like your first two critiques. Thanks for taking the time to provide such useful feedback. Another logo I did is on page 2 called 'Drop Tyne Identity'. [More to come I'm sure]

The font used for "Engineering & Surveying" is 'Neutraface' by House Industries.

This logo set was literally a quick 15-minute first crack after talking with my brother. I'm not sold on 'Avant Garde' for the main typeface but it filled in nicely for the initial concept and I like the circle "C" style after closing the gap a bit. I'll certainly try to find a couple of additional options that maintain the look. I've shown the logo to three different groups and all immediately say the second C needs to be rotated back. [I now see why] A perfect example of how your first instinct isn't always right.

I've since created a bunch of additional variations and plan on posting a followup for others to see the progress. Thanks again everyone for providing your invaluable insight.

one coment, althought the logo seems fine, i think theres too much graphic work on the typeface, with the oposing C, that could make a logo by itself, my sugestion is to decide which is gona be the main player of the identity, either the logo(graphic) or the type itself, and give it a more prominent situation inside the identity either reduce the size of any, or try new positioning.

my 2 cents.

Here's the latest design concept for the business cards on this project with the logo modifications. I'm suggesting a rounded die cut on the sides to immediately make his business standout from the competition and as a subtle play off of the company name. There are still details to be hammered out but in the words of my brother, "we are extremely close". Thanks again for all of the comments.

I think as the pro you are.... this is a winner, it´s integrated, has a lot of balance and it is attractive and memorable, and the iconcan standout alone or with the text, this a great logo, Wow!!!
