Gardening Capital of the Midwest

This tourism marketing logo concept has already been accepted by my project managers. But since I don't work with any other designer's, I was hoping to get some technical and compositional critique on this. Ie: kerning, letter forms, colors, etc.

Ottawa, Illinois which we are branding as a center for gardening. Includes not only beautiful downtown gardens and container gardens, but an English inspired large greenhouse, retail stores selling gardening tools, artwork, ponds, fountains, etc, a master gardener lecture series, artisans making garden sculptures, koi ponds, a TV and radio gardening show, the works. They are also on a large riverbank, where much of the landscaping can take place, with gathering places. etc.

I have also attached a mock ad.

I'm surprised by this

I'm surprised by this treatment from you.It lacks the sophistication and outright cleverness that I associate with your work, so I think I must be missing an important aspect of this project. Absent an explanation to set me straight, It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the description of the town's chief attractions at all, other than that it's in different shades of green. Is the town aiming for a kid-friendly look or something?

In any case, I don't care for the traditional serif font for "Illinois." I really think that if you're going to go with a childlike look, you should carry it through on all elements of the logo.
