Gregorr (158 pencils) | Mon, 2012-06-11 13:09Hey guys n' gals
Been a while since I've posted anything. Been too busy with my day job for logo shenanigans. Here's one I just did for a friend. Please let me know if you having thoughts/suggestions.
Thanks

its fun. and reasonably well executed!
but i dont think the type and the icon are working together as well as they might. seems like its two different things close together. rather than a cohesive composition.
I would like to see the same variable line width on the face as you did on the legs.
Like! The fingers should have the little suction cup shape.
Is GEICO going to mind?
Mara
interesting point. so geico has so owned the gecko, that nobody else can use it?
discuss...
I guess it just creates a challenge to set the brand apart from Geico, which is a big one by the looks of things. The inevitable association could work in the smaller company's favor too but it's a dangerous game.
Saying that though, here in the UK there's a company called 'Compare the market.com - not sure if you know it in the US, and their strap is 'compare the meerkat' with their mascot being a meerkat funnily enough. If Geico is anything like that, then I would just stay away from the mammoth task of trying to establish an independent brand which uses similar devices to another. That said though, surely it couldn't hurt by starting a small company called 'Meerkat networking solutions'...
If I was aiming at branding/starting a very large company, i'd steer clear of all company names / marketing devices which are associated with another large company, but for small companies I can't see that it's any particular issue imo.

it's anti-ethic but who cares nowadays. It's common issue on underdeveloped countries.
yes I'm brazilian xD
I see it as need a rebrand.

Why do you still have a day job?
Lack of confidence and know-how, (which feed my procrastination). I feel I need to go back to college to study Graphic/Web design so I can build both up.
The soul killing minimum-wage jobs are getting old.
The feedback (positive and negative) I have received on this website has helped me decide that I can, and want do this for a living.

I remember those soul-killing jobs. Trust me - it's better to be a graphic artist.
Use the internet - all the info is out there.
Thanks for the comments guys.
Well, I didn't know Geico existed, but as Jon mentioned, since this is going to be a very small operation in Northern Ireland I don't imagine it being a problem.
Time constraints have made it impossible to re-brand qwerty. I do wish I had more time to explore other options, but this one needs to be complete in a few days.
I will definitely play with the line variation on the face as I can see they don't match up with the legs/body. I will also move the composition around, and try to see if I can make the link between font and image stronger.

I know it's probably too late to change it, but the first thing that came to mind when I saw this was, "The lizard has been squashed!"
Maybe it's just because I've lived in places that have had lizards (i.e. west coast of the USA), and I've seen it happen. (Not a pretty sight.) At least the poor thing has a smile on it's face. :-)
Take the above with a grain of salt though...I'm not veteran in these parts.
