Gloss on White Buttons
liam_dalton (9 points) | Sat, 2008-12-06 22:21Hello, I posted a reply to a really old critique in 2005 but I guess it doesn't show up. I'm trying to create a gloss effect on a white button. It works great with all other colours but when it comes to white... Anyway, here is the reference link: http://creativebits.org/white_button. If someone can provide a sample screenshot or something, that would help so much! I'm not even sure how the gloss should turn out!

My pathetic attempt hahaha... looks awful, I think. >.<
It's a pink gloss. I figured if I use white as background, I can't use white to gloss and since the rest of the site design is redish/pink then a light pink should be "reflected" on the button. I will try the shading again hopefully this time, it will look... nicer? lol
remember that nothing is really white except light... highlights (or gloss if you will) should be the brightest thing ... therefore your base color should be darker. If you want a pink highlight, then the surface should be darker than the highlight.
You should take some art classes, that will help you learn basics like this much quicker. If you cant afford classses, some colleges have a free modeling session you can attend and while they won't teach you for free... you can learn from watching what other artists do.

Well, I kept trying but boy, I'm certainly not very good at it! haha
