Good Hosting Service
kratu (72 pencils) | Mon, 2007-08-20 15:36Keeping a designer's portfolio in persepective (with hi-res images and movies) which one do you recommend? I'm looking for fast access speed, constant uptime, good support ... you get the idea?

one of the best I've come across in the past few years.

I've been using Hosting Zoom for over a year. 'Been good for me, at least.
My biggest warning is to NOT use Influx Hosting - they're a joke. Most horrid hosting company I've ever encountered.

Lunarpages has been excellent for me.

I don't recommend the one we're using currently on cb, that is Dreamhost. They had way too much downtime in the last 6 month. Otherwise they are really good in service and pricing.
I do however recommend Rimu VPS. It is a virtual private server, so it gives you amazing power at a really good price. And, since we've been with them for about 6 month, we never had a second of downtime or any disruption. Most importantly the support is available on AIM, Yahoo or MSN chat, so you can get any question answered instantly.
I actually have a Dreamhost account that I signed up for when I was switching hosts (another to stay away from is Hostony). The Dreamhost setup and admin/control panel was too odd for me. I guess I just got used to CPanel, and Lunarpages offered that.
Also Dreamhost had a very odd setup to test out your site (had to add some subdomain to another domain they owned or something, big PITA).
I do like how Dreamhost is so transparent in their blog, very refreshing. No idea how the service is as I never use that account. I intended to set it up as an emergency instead of just letting it sit there, but never had the time to learn their arcane setup.
I signed up for LunarPages about 2 hours after signing up with Dreamhost and realizing I would have to learn DH's custom setup, which I had no time for. I haven't regretted signing up with LP since.

Sure thing, thanks for the suggestions. Although, am wondering now that everyone has unique point to make. Anyways, I'll do further research and pin down one. (I did fire a questionnaire to one of the hosting services.)

Site5.com has been pretty good for me, though there is the occasional downtime (I hope my forum is not the cause!).
I also considered Dreamhost and MediaTemple at the time. The thing that sold me was the support forum on Site5.. it's excellent.
I'm looking for an asp.net host other than maximumasp.net (hate them). Any other providers for this?
