The Grid System, tips, suggestions
TylerR_NKY (256 points) | Mon, 2009-05-11 15:39I've been spending most of my time lately trying to figure out the basics of the Grid System. I've been using thegridsystem.org as reference, as well as a few small sections in some of my design books.
Does anyone have suggestions for books dedicated just to the grid system? I've seen a few on Amazon and at Border's.
Any good tips would be helpful too.
Thanks!

What kinds of things are you mostly designing these days? Print work I assume? Brochures, ads layouts, books, what? That might help to narrow suggestions down to something you'll really find helpful.

I'm only 2 years out of school, so I really don't have a whole lot of experience in one area. I did do pre-press for a year.
Anyway, at the moment what I'm looking to learn about is web design and layout. I'm currently involved in the design of 3 sites, one for myself, and two as volunteer work.
It's just a little overwhelming trying to figure out where to start on the layout. Hence, why I'm interested in learning the system.

The Grid System
There really is no substitution for a well designed and thought out grid. This is one concept that would do well for one to master.
As this post has re-surfaced I'll add on this resource for completeness: www.thegridsystem.org/
It's a growing list of sites, articles and materials that help understand and build grids (online and off).
