It's called Growl and it's a a global notification system for Mac OS X. It notifies you when you get new mail, alerts you when adium needs to, shows you what iTunes is playing and so much more.
It has multible skins so you can customize the looks of it and I don't feel it drains my cpu. Oh, and it's free.

Well, I must be blind, but I've not seen this one. Is this just a candy or has it's use on long term?
