Hack Art Lab
wynnc23 (31 pencils) | Mon, 2011-01-24 07:42still working on Hack Art Lab logo....in this i have the top negative space forming a beaker with liquid inside and bubbles escaping through top, this is meant to bring in the science/lab aspect of their company. I didn't want to alter the negative space on the bottom because i wanted to the font choice to bring in the academic/student aspect of the company. I am still missing something to clearly bring in a the art aspect. I was thinking maybe a stir stick coming out the top of the beaker and maybe making a paint brush, but thought that might be too much in one piece. what do you guys think?

Wasn't crazy about this idea to begin with, but I'm happy you stuck with it. To me, this is a step in the right direction. It still seems the H is by far overpowering the cleverness of the beaker though, which to me is the core of the concept. If you can find a way to use the negative space on the bottom as well I think you might have something, although I do fear that it might be overkill.

I'm going to print it out and eat it.

This is another huge leap forward for me. Your thinking is correct too - you need to tie in the art aspect - and I like the idea of the paintbrush / stir stick. That's exactly the kind of thing you need here. Leaky's right about the beaker too - it needs to be more pronounced. Don't even worry about the shape of the H - this one is so beefy you can't destroy it.
Speaking of beakers.... here's a little Art D history for ya. Check out the logo at the top...

Hi,
I like the use of negative space.
However, how about the beaker in the lower negative space ??
And since you're comfortable with shapes escaping the letter H, why not put your stick in the upper negative space ??
With the use of multiple colours, you could have your negative spaces extend beyond the letter.

gigantic improvement from your two earlier efforts!
xperience thinner "H"
yes I'm brazilian xD
Maybe bottom negative space as paint tube? But at the designer-wife of a scientist, I dig it.
