Handy
nathanlewis (31 pencils) | Sun, 2006-10-08 20:42This is a design for a business card , flyer for a handy man.
Do "handy men" need an identity ? what qualities should you communicate?
I think Professional ..
This guy does not compete on price but they are price sensitive.
They want a traditional service, value. etc.
How is that design working ? would you use it ?

This is probably the worst thing I have ever seen.

although theres this thing coming out called the Zune from MS... thats pretty shocking....
but no, these remind me of clipart from word, mixed with one of the machines at the entrace of a supermarket where you get dirt cheap do it yourself business cards.
sorry to be harsh - JLathrop has a better way of helping :)

dpc's comment wasn't very helpful, but these aren't very good pieces. Is the black border part of the card? Then you need to move your interior margin farther in. The copy is much to close to the border (or edge if that is area that will be trimmed off).
The card: Of the two, this is okay. Just okay. Not outstanding. Not eye catching, but not horrible. And you're in a different country than me, but I've always found it pretentious to put "MR." on a card. Especially something as casual as a handyman.
The flyer: This is pretty bad. Use the same type as the business card. Do handy men need an identity? Well everyone does. This is the kind of job where someone is going to grab your card because they need you now, not because "hmm, I'll need my door fixed in 4 months, I think I will keep this card." Especially true of the flyer. Most people won't keep it unless they need something now. And the work will pull the customers back. So if these are posted around, you want them to be consistent to plant seeds. Also, it's not that hard to make a flyer such as this match the card.
But the flyer is something I would throw right away. The art is cheesy and doesn’t help sell the service. Don’t use artwork just because you have space to fill. Find artwork that advances the dsign or use the type better. Based on the margins, I don’t think you should be trying to fill the space with art but giving it more margin and spacing.
And I hate the extended dots. Use three (ellipses) if you’re going to use them, don’t just go on and on.
The copy needs to be tightened up and punctuation adjusted (use a proper “em” or long dash, with no spaces, instead of a regular dash).
I’d say start over.
