Having a Mac on the Network is Always Helpful

Just a tip if you're working in a mixed environment. I can't count the times that having a Macintosh computer in our mixed PC-Mac environment has saved a number of headaches.

We work on a shared network and more frequently than I would like, someone once a week accidentally picks up a folder/document/etc on the shared drive and dumps it elsewhere. This always results in mad panic from those of us in the group with PCs at their desks. Seems their XP can't find things very well on the shared drive ... or maybe just not very quickly.

I and my Mac hop to the rescue with Spotlight. Just fire up a search, select the shared drive, and search for some text strings in the names or within the files on the drive and viola! There are the files.

I let them know where they are hiding (typically one folder down the directory structure).

Consider this just a helpful tip. Let's not start any Mac or PC bashing here.
