Having Compession Problems

Hi,

Im new to this site so let me just start off by saying hi! :)

My name is Jesse and i work for a major production company in Toronto, Canada. We are creating a new TV show for Warner Brothers Kids. Now, lets get to bis.

My problem is the following, when importing in our bg's to flash we get compression problems. We have our BG guys making the bg's at 300 dpi so that when we zoom in on them they look great. But when we import 72 version to flash and downsize to the size we need the lines look pixelated. Now ive tried making them higher dpi but that doesnt work either. My own idea is that vector files would work better but we dont have the time and man power to do that. Does anyone have an idea?

-Thanks.

Vector is definitely best. Jpgs, by virtue of their compression, are always going to distort straight lines because of the large blocks they use to represent a photo to the human eye while keeping a small file size.

Adobe does say you can import layered photoshop files to Flash to keep file 'fidelity':

See if that does the trick.

Can you tell us what this show is going to be called? :) I'd love to know!

"major production company" that doesn't have the man power to vectorize work for a major company like Warner Bros, wow, you guys must have some seriously big projects to be able to just ignore major issues like this for such a potentially big client...

I worked in the entertainment/dvd industry for 3.5 years and believe me, most production cos that service the major studios are small operations with A TON of work going on. Most projects are quick and dirty as a result; no time to vectorize every single thing after the fact.

i've seen it too, my brother works on movie sets, and he's completely freelance, a prime example of what yo say are "small operations". the problem here is he claims he's from a "major production company" hence why i quoted it the first time.

see the oxymoron now? lol :)

Yes, using the word 'major' is a bit boastful on his part. :)
