Help with an Adobe Illustrator problem!!
wfpot09 (11 points) | Wed, 2009-02-04 04:21Is there any way that when you go to save the file for web use (jpegs, bitmaps, etc) that it doesnt save the area outside the artboard?
I have put a mask around the artboard so that it doesnt show the stuff outside the artboard but when i go to save the file for web use (jpegs, bitmaps, etc) it still saves all the stuff outside the artboard.
Thanks
that is not happening for me with Ai CS4 if I'm working with web profile.

what do you mean web profile?
right now i have been working designing flyers and what not and sometimes there is somethings (some objects, pics, etc)outside of the artboard and all i want is just what is inside the artboard and nothing else if its outside of it. any ideas other than just erasing everything outside of the artboard....which im sure there has to be some easier way to do it.
thanks

You can use a crop area to do this. Just draw a box around the edges of the art board (snapping can help here), select it and choose: Object>Crop area>Make
Now, when you export a pdf or save for web, the artwork will be cropped at the edges of the crop area.
To edit or delete the crop area, just choose: Object>Crop area>Release.
Does that help?
dude thats exactly what i want to do but when i go to "object" there is no "crop" anywhere to be found. but if i can find what you are explaining thats exactly what i wanna do....thanks for ur help btw

You are quite right, Crop area has been removed from CS4 in favor of the artboard tool. A quick google for 'CS4 crop area' finds quite a load of people with the same problem.
I'm still on CS1 so haven't run into this issue before.
lol why in the hell would they do that!?! haha well i appreciate the help and i will google it so i can find out maybe the solution. thanks again
In the Save for Web dialog, cllick on Image Size (in the bottom right corner): select "Clip to Artboard" and hit Apply.
