Help with iMAIL problems
aitchmal0ne (220 pencils) | Thu, 2010-08-05 20:25There are times when I attach a file in iMail and it decreases the size of the file. What is happening? AND... sometimes even when I check the box "send windows friendly attachments" it sends the file in the body of the email and the recipient is unable to save the file to their computer. HELP!!!!

Use the online email access if this is a one time problem. If its a common problem, then use a different mail client?
I finally found the solution for the first problem. There is a small box in the bottom right of the mail window that now asks what size you want your attachment to send as (small, medium, large or actual size). Now even though I think this is one of the dumbest things apple has ever included in a program, I'm glad I have a solution.
Now, so-far the only solution I have found for the mail attachment embedding problem is to purchase a plug-in. Does anyone know of a way to do this without spending any money?

How is specifying a mail attachments size from within the application dumb? Would you rather resize, then resave, or do it in one click? Besides, why aren't you using PDFs?

It's dumb because I am obviously wanting the exact file I am attaching to be what goes through to the recipient. And I am sending photos to my freelancer and those are being sent as NEF files.

just set up an FTP server where they can download directly from your website, simplez. Just send a link.

I've struck this problem before too. Solution - put files into a folder, zip it & then send.
Personally I think this is one of the better things Apple has done. The majority of people do not understand the complications of sending large files and how it can screw up mail servers.
People just take the JPEGs directly of their new 12MP camera and send them. Most of the time people only need to send images that are about 1200x800.
Trying to explain to people that they need to open up each image, resize it, save it as a new name is far too complicated.
I only wish Apple would us a better JPEG optimizer for the job.
