HELP! Indesign and Illustrator CS2 Launch Problems
ireid (1283 points) | Thu, 2010-01-14 21:35So I was processing a rather large fil in InDesign and it crashed. No problem I thought, I'll just restart it and everything would be up and running.
I got the "Personalize your copy of InDesign" and my Name and the Company name entered already but the serial number box is empty. So I entered the serial number (which is bonafide) It tells me "Invalid serial" So I tried a few more times, same result.
So I deiced to rebuild the artwork in Illustrator and THAT hasn't LAUNCHED yet . . . its hung on the "Initializing" comment in the splash page.
Photoshop Launches fine, but I NEED InDny and AI to do this project!
Help. I reinstalled, ran permissions, ran disk first aid in single user mode, no dice.
Any suggestions? I trashed the prefs too, no go. . .

Check Adobe's website for a script that removes/uninstalls everything then try installing it again. You should also consider getting CS3 or CS4 by now. I'm pretty sure Adobe stopped offering any updates and support for CS2.
I think it has to do with the update for Acrobat that they just released. I was dealing with the same issue and then just gave up, archived my data, reinstalled the os and cs2 w/o acrobat- It all works. You might try getting rid of acrobat before reinstalling the os though, that might save you some time.
Good Luck.
I do believe that it WAS the latest Acrobat Update. . . grrrrr I KNOW I need CS3+4 BUT my company's red tape has tied THAT up so well that I'm tired requesting it. . . it also has to do with the down turn in the economy, trying to cut back costs. . . blah blah blah.
We also have some OLD machines, so not ALL the Macs can run CS4. . . see comment above on cutting back costs.
Anyways I went and removed ANYTHING that was Adobe related and I reinstalled EVERYTHING in order. . .
Now things are working. . . thank god.
Thanks for the info and the confirmation that it WAS the Acrobat Update!. . . will skip that one when it asks again.

Just created an account so I could say a big THANKS!
I too had this problem (same day ireid posted). First it was the icon bounce and crash for InDesign, then after reinstalling, the invalid serial number. And same splash screen hang for Illustrator. Thanks to your info I was able to completely uninstall CS2 and reload without having to touch the OS.
Now to figure out which of the updates are safe... UGGGHHH!! And put one more penny in the bank for that new iMac and CS4. Okay, maybe 2 pennies....
I had the same problem and did a web search - this thread came up, so thanks for the help, everyone.
Good old Adobe have come up with a solution, nice and easy, it worked for me anyway! Here it is:
