HELP! for InDesign file
3dogmama (1994 points) | Mon, 2008-09-22 14:37HI,
I need to set up an INDD file for a digital printer, and was wondering if there was a way to output my original file at 77% as you can do in Quark? I've asked another designer friend of mine, but the conversion to eps and then to PDF seems like a lot of unnecessary steps. I know that I could request the original file to be output at a reduced size, but sometimes requests are lost in the wind and things output incorrectly.
Thanks in advance.

i don't know a simple way to do this, but it's not something i've needed to do before or looked for.
could you group your page elements, scale them to 77%, then resize the page and make sure it's on the right place, then save it?
i would suggest asking the question at www.indesignsecrets.com. they're pretty savvy there and the couple of times i've emailed them there i've gotten fairly quick answers. plus, if they think your question is useful to others, they'll make a blog entry about it.
Thank you. I'll reference them for future dealings with this issue. I did a simple workaround this am to extinguish the *first* fire today. Whew! Did everyone miss the memo about easing into the work week via the Monday? :) Thank God I'm wearing my runners today 'cause I've had to hit the floor running.
Cheers.

Glad u figured it out. Had I been stuck with this problem I would have done one of two things:
#1 I would have done kind of what gwells said but I would have used the layout adjustment function.
• go to layout > layout adjustment > turn it on and set the parameter you need. Click Ok.
• Adjust the document size and everything (should) intuitively adjust along with it. especially if its the same ratio.
#2 I would have printed to PDF at the size I needed.
• Find out what the final output size of your document would be at 77%
• File > Print > Pick pdf as your printer.
• Paper size: custom: make it the final output size you need.
• Select scale to fit (below) print. Voila.

What a cement head I am...thank you, KrunkPony. I've become so used to exporting PDFs from INDD I completely forgot about distilling my file at the required size. I referred to this old thread as I had run into a similar issue this afternoon.
Cheers.
